We installed a Permatrim hydrofoil on our Suzuki 70hp and it works great. I've heard other hydrofoils would make the boat squirrely in turns but we've never experienced that with the Permatrim. It really gets the bow down and makes running through chop much smoother. I've read other Permatrim users saying the same thing. There's lot of info about hydrofoils in the Trim Tabs, Hydrofoil forum.

Below is the link to the only U.S. distributor of Permatrim. I spoke to the dealer directly about a month ago, I think his name was Andy Jr. He's very knowlegeable and verified that he is the lone distributor of Permatrim in the U.S. I'm sure they would have one that would fit a Yamaha but be sure to call.

If you decide on Yamaha, I have a new-in-the-box Permatrim for the 75 and 90 hp Yamaha models sitting in my garage. I went with Trim Master trim tabs instead. Just check on the current cost of a new one and PM me with an offer I can't refuse. Laughing

Jennykatz:

The Permatrim is well made and from reports on here, it works well. My reason for choosing to pass up the Permatrim for the trim tabs were twofold and had nothing to do with whether I liked it or not and everything to do with preventing a costly ding in my garage:

I had precisely 26 ft. available for storage and the Permatrim adds to the overall length, especially with the motor up. Punching a hole in the garage stucco was inevitable if I went Permatrim.

Trim Master sells a 12 X 9 kit for the C-Dory for $300 if you ask for the C-Dory special. 12 X 12 is only $30 more. It's quality is easily the equal of Bennett. Our erstwhile Nerd got Brats the special some time back and they still honor it. (You can FROOGLE it for $275 + shipping elsewhere but the factory support is worth haggling for.) The tabs don't add to the overall length, so it was a safer alternative.

I think Da Nag has or had both the Permatrim and the Trim Master tabs but I find the tabs are sufficient. At least so far....

Jenny,

To get the PM (private message) - look at the "C-Brats" menu bar on the top every page. On the bottom right of the bar, 4 icons over from the help icon, is the PM icon. It should indicate if you have PM's. Click on it to read and respond. If you have problems, the help icon contains many pieces of info that may help.

Best,
Roger on the SeaDNA

I made a hydrofoil for my boat. I didn’t want to spend over $100 for a piece of bent aluminum, so I made one based on the permatrim that I saw in several albums. I didn’t have an actual permatrim to copy but the one I made makes a world of difference on how my boat handles. Savings was over $100 because I had some scrap aluminum lying around. Photos of it in my Boat Project album, last two photos

Dave,
Great job! Thumbs Up Looks just like the Permatrim we had on my Suzuki DF70. I really liked the way C-Dancer handled with the Permatrim.
We'll have to compare how she handles with trim tabs only with the new DF90.

When I made mine, I had photos of it from user’s photo albums with the permatrim on 50 hp Hondas and I had the 50 hp Honda engine. I printed the photos from every angel I could find, then scaled the permatrim and checked the dimensions against my engine, so I had an idea of size. After it was fabricated, I then made minor modifications to it, to insure a good fit for my engine. I would think the 90 hp should have a slightly larger permatrim than the 50. If I could see a photo of the permatrim for the 50 hp model next to the permatrim for the 90 hp model it could be done, or photos of it on a 90 hp Honda. I would also like to have a 90 hp Honda to be able to make any minor adjustments/cuts to the trim for a good fit. Or better yet if you had the dimensions for the permatrim for your engine, it would be a piece of cake. Not sure if I have anymore aluminum left but my brother is friends with a large machine shop in Olympia and can get it for close to scrap prices.

The short answer to your question is, without more information I would not be able to. If you can get me the information I have indicated above, I would do it for the cost of materials + $25 for my brother for his help. That would be installed, if you bring your boat to Olympia. Should be able to be done in one day, but if you left the boat, we have a warehouse about ¼ mile from Swantown Marina in Olympia. It also has a fenced and locked yard around the warehouse. If you want it shipped to you, add shipping cost and without a 90 hp engine to match it to, you may have to do some minor filing/grinding and sanding on it for a good fit.
