Want some info on RV Air conditioners on c-dory boats(Venture 23) .how do we compensate the shape of our roof with a rigid AC unit ? Do we have to build extra support ? Looked at Will-C V-23 on photos it didn't look like any extra support was given. I bought a Coleman mach 8 9200 .Anyway I see Dr. Bob reinforced his 25 and tomcat . Just asking for advise on those who have done it .
I added the heater option so I have to change out spare wiring to a 12 AWG and a 20 amp breaker instead of the 15 installed in my 30 amp service panel Micro-logic .Next week the Fun begins .
Next will be to redo the Bimini top and we have a much more comfortable boat to camp out in .

My concern about mounting the AC on a curved top, is that the AC has a non compressible bottom and top plate which are flat. If you compress the gasket--eventually, it will make a "dimple" deformity in the roof (depending on construction and if cored), and this could cause leakage of water around the gasket. If you just re-inforced the lower side, then it probably would be OK--with the foam "gasket" on the top, conforming to the roof. I made the curve contour with steps using a router, then a belt sander. You could just cut the arc withe a saber or jig saw, and 2 x 2 wood for the bottom. Epoxy in place.
I realize a number of RV air conditioners have been put on the roofs, with no modification. We don't go with the reverse cycle heat pump because they tend to loose effectiveness below 40*. The small 1500 watt cube heaters work well--usually on low, even in the 25. Ours was accidentally run on the inverter for a few hours recently: did fine, but not recommended. _________________ Bob Austin

We will cut our 14by14 hole then probably rebuild bottom with plastic wood and use a sander to conform to inside roof of 23 Thanks Jim W |

It’s done AC in a Cdory plus heat what a thrill and it doesn’t look to bad it’s a 9200 Coleman The roof was almost 7/8 inch with a small curve its fiberglass on both sides with balsa-core in middle Of roof I talked to a few brats that have used this 100 lb. AC unit We put the heat coil in for some heat also .It pulls less then 13amps on AC and 19 on heat Put in 12/3wire 20 ft run and a 30 amp breaker We used foam to fill in curve it seems to be OK .Time will tell if we need extra support Jim
Thanks for help and support |
