When is the last time you checked your wipers? After our gathering on the St. John’s River this year a group of us made a trip to Jacksonville and one of the group complained that the wipers were ineffective. After we inspected the wipers we found that the top part of the pivot arm was totally seized. My wife informed me that her side was not working as well as it was in the past. A little lube took care of our problem but the other couple was still spraying their wipers with WD-40 and I don’t know if they came free.
My friend and I looked at a potential boat for him that was very clean and looked well maintained. The wipers were seized on that boat also.
I’ve added the wipers to my list of maintenance items. It’s a lot easier to lube them than free them up later.

Salt water issue; boat Lake Superior and have no issues (like that, 😁).

Or maybe it's a Florida issue. Washington state, we wash our salt water off with fresh rain water.

The manual wipers on my 2005 Angler 19 were worn out. I had a hard time finding replacement blades for the antiquated arms. I found replacement manual wiper assemblies on Amazon by Sea Dog. They were less than $30 each and installed in a few minutes. The quality is very good and they work fine. Here is a link... I hope it pastes correctly!

If the arm and metal part of the wiper blade are in good shape: buy one of the standard auto wiper blades 24" long, take the rubber out of the holder, and discard the metal part. For about $8 to 10 you will have two new wipers, after inserting them into the old SS wiper slots. I have done this several times--and will take photos next time I do the switch. I keep one of the 24" blades (less metal parts )on the boat so they can be replaced at any time.
I have to disagree that only salt water boats have problems with wipers--there have been a number of "fresh water only" boats who also have had both corrosion and wear issues. _________________ Bob Austin

You're not using your wipers enough! lol. Mine spend as much time wiping wave splashes off as they do rain water. Actually probably more wave overspray than rain! Colby |
