lloyds, I think you hit the nail on the head. I have just spent about 2 weeks researching batteries, everything from Lithium Iron, to Carbon mat AGM, Gel, and Flooded Lead Acid. The most interesting were the LiFe's and the Carbon mat (Fire Fly) but it boils down to $$$$, in my case and time. So for now, I am going with what I did last time, FLA Interstate Marine/RV Deep Cycle and the next step will be to add solar charging capability. My Interstate Group 29's have been working for 6 years, and (have been on BatteryMinder maintainers for all 6 years.

I'm going with what I had because I know it works, and I can sleep 2 nights in a row without having to run the OB's to charge for the next nights CPAP use. I agree that the solar charge done right is going to be the icing on the cake.

Always sleep better on the boat.

Here is my data. Other than the CPAP, the only other load is cell phone charging, maybe some LED light usage, and whatever the car type am/fm radio uses when turned off.

Respironics Remstar Plus (34,650 hours!), no humidifier, direct plug into 12V cigarette lighter. 10cm pressure setting.

Group 24 Interstate Marine/RV, 13V to 12.6V going to bed, 12.37V to 12.25V in morning. 11 data points (nights of usage).

Group U1 Superstart AGM, 12.79V before, 12.34V after, 1 data point.

I always travel with a $35 dollar 400 watt inverter. I plug it in a cigarette lighter type 12vdc outlet and plugged in a 6 way power strip to the inverter. Plugged the C-Pap machine into that along with charging phones using the regular 120 volt style plug in chargers. Also good for charging camera batteries. We have the same set up in the car for our mobile hotspot and charging iPads cell phones and camera batteries. Cheap trick.
