I knew a Finn who said getting a driver's license in Finland involved about the same amount of study and effort as getting a private pilot's license in the US. In Finland you had to learn a lot more about how a car worked and what to do in abnormal situations than you needed to learn in the US.
However, this makes sense if you consider the operating environments. In Finland you are much more likely to find yourself in extreme weather and undeveloped areas than you are in the US and you need to know as much as possible so you can resolve the issues with your vehicle. A break down by the side of the road in winter is a much more serious situation there than usually occurs in the US. |

People vary widely in taking due diligence in their activities; maybe less so
when it comes to recreation. Not everyone, by a long shot, knows what
assiduousness means and how it can affect your life.
Just review some stupid activities people have done to win a (posthumous)
"Darwin Award": https://mpora.com/multi-sport/there-are-hundreds-of-stupid-ways-to-die-but-these-have-got-to-be-some-of-the-silliest
Need I say more?

Lol. Great analogy Bob. Whatever thoughts I had about ever getting into a boat partnership are gone. _________________ Conrad Metzenberg

I think it could work with the right people and in the right setting. It just seems like a lot of risk for not much reward. I'd rather just buy a boat.
It's still a good idea though Rob and if you feel passionate about it then do it. Don't listen to us! Did any of us ever think that Uber would work??? _________________ <><><> Jason <><><>

Bob , would sharing a boat [like a wife] make you a Polyvesselist ?

Marc, I am already a "polyvesselist" (proper Greek would probably be "polyvárkaist")--I own more than one boat. I suspect one boat sharing two masters would be closer to Polyandromy, since a boat is of the female gender and is sharing two masters in a shared partnership... _________________ Bob Austin

I see there are two seminars on boat clubs at the Seattle show this year. I plan to attend. The essential item for sharing, it seems to me, is a really good, time tested contract. It does not seem to exist. I am not wanting to experiment with the creation of such a thing. As mentioned, there can be a lot of headaches.
With regard to 'owning', I don't need to own, or feel like I need to own a boat. I just want to use one several times a year. If I hear something interesting I will post it. |
