I have looked at a C-Dory 22 cruiser and liked it. Tomorrow looking at C-Dory Venture 23. Pros and cons of each?

25 vs 23? Or 22 vs 23? ????

Simple. 25 over 23. And 23 over 22.

Hahahaha

Jason, Jason, Jason. That might be simple for some, and coming from you, I guess we should really learn from your example. Or . . . .

The 22 and 23 are pretty similar boats. I consider the 23 to be an updated 22, but they were originally competitors in the market. The 22 is a classic, and many owners will tell you nothing needed to be updated with the 22. A bit more deadrise with the 23, but more similar than different.

The 25 is a much larger boat in every dimension and about a ton heavier than the 22. Some folks say it is a 22 with an enclosed head/shower, but it is much more than that - more amenities, more storage, and more elbow room.

The 23 slightly better ride in chop; 8" longer and 4" wider. I personally like the simplicity of the interior of the 22, no liner.

The 25 is a much bigger boat 8 1/2' beam and 25' 5" long. Weight with trailer in the 7500 to 8000 # range. The 25 ride is going to be better.

If you get the 23 Venture Sport, it comes without the option of a liner. This is what we have. I appreciate the simplicity of the spray in stipple for ease of cleaning, durability and maintenance in place of the liner.

We saw the sport 23 today and looks good for us. We would opt not to have a liner. Thanks for comments. Anyone in the Seattle area that has a 23 Venture sport to let us look at?

ktoot, consider driving up to the C-Dory factory in Fairhaven Wa. for a tour of the model you are considering. Call to see if they have that model being constructed. We did this before buying ours and were able to see one with the hull being fabricated and one in final detail before delivery. Feel free to PM me for additional information.

Master Marine in Mt Vernon has a 23 Venture and a 23 Sport? I am sure they would love to let you crawl around on them, if they are open. They are just south of Mt Vernon on the west side of I-5. Have fun.

Ktoot, I have the 23' Venture with the liner and I love it. I don't see it mentioned on this thread that blankets, pillows and sleeping bags that happen to be next to the hull in the V-berth don't get wet from condensation. And I don't have morning cabin sweat to wipe down. I think the liner yields a finished look that's also easy to clean and just might make my boat a little quieter and warmer. My boat's kept indoors, but if it wasn't I'd be more concerned about the possibility of mold. But NMI has added liners to their Sea Sports for years and said they've worked out very well.

I had a 16' Angler for a spell and also loved the liner-free look, so I can certainly see why guys feel that way. After all, that's a classic C-Dory look. I didn't used to be a liner guy; thought it was too Ranger-like. But now spoiled with a liner, I wouldn't go back. Know, too, that the V-berth and cockpit are subtly but appreciably larger in the 23'. Owned three years next week, 40 trips, 513 hours, it's a darn fine boat.

The liner makes more sense in the colder climates. Here in FL, I have seen many boats with mold in the foam. Also delimitation of the foam/vinyl/cabin. If you were to keep AC going to keep temp and humidity, it would probably work ok here also.

Nobody has mentioned the Venture 26...I know the Venture 23 feels considerably roomier inside than a C-Dory 22. The Venture 26 probably feels a bit roomier than a C-Dory 25. I would at least put that into the mix. Also, a personal point - we have had a CD 22 and now have CD 25 - it would be very hard for us to go back to the 22 - it is not mainly the head, it is the "elbow room" in the 25!

Hi Daydream,

We are downsizing from a 40 foot sailboat. Bigger is not necessarily better for us. The 25 is nice, but we want to keep it at our house. The Venture 23 cockpit is wider and it has many features that we like. Most importantly, it fits in the space we have.

To me, there is nothing subtle about the difference in the ride between a Venture 23 vs. 22 Cruiser. The Venture I rode in - Catman's - was nothing short of amazing.

I'd be happy in either, but if budget is not a consideration - I find the Venture 23 more refined and enjoyable. Especially with the lined interior.

We are going to see Catman's boat on Sunday. Looks great in his pictures! I like liners, as I had them in all my sailboats. Took care of the moisture problem.
