Anyone interested in a couple following the Great Loop or Grand Loop
from Florida and back around to Florida Go to www.Tracyandjan.com They are my neighbors here in Superior,WI and the nicest couple you could meet.
I know this is not about a C-Dory but could be. Their boat is a fifty-five footer that few of us will ever own, but we can dream.

C-Otter,
Having just purchased my C-Dory for just the purpose of making the Great Circle Loop and all points in between I am very interested in reading of anyone doing the trip. I will need all the education on the trip that I can get. Besides it is fun reading until I can get out there myself.
Thanks for the link and tell your friend when they check in to keep their travels updated and give lots of details .... inquiring minds want to know....well I know I do. _________________ Mike Taylor

2011 will be our year to begin. 2010 if I get wild and crazy. Seems like a long time away but I already have 40 years of work behind me, how hard can five more be? |

I'll be ready to do the trip about the same time. I'm just not sure if I want to do it on a 22 or 25. My route was going to be Whittier to Seattle, south to the Columbia River, up the Columbia as far as I can go, trailer to first put in point on the Missouri, down the Missouri and starting the loop. I will probably plan a couple of years to complete it. There's just too much water to explore. _________________ Tom

C-Otter,
We were headed toward Apalachicola, FL on the GIWW a few days ago and "Wandering Star" passed us. Small world indeed.
I enjoyed their website, sent them an email, and just received a reply.
....Beautiful Boat!

Must be "tough" doing the Grand Loop in a 60-70 foot cruiser! The interior volume of a boat goes up with the cube of the dimensions.
A 65 footer is 2.95+ times as big as a 22, and the interior volume roughs out to be over 25 times as large.
Just room enough for your Mother-in Law...and her boyfriend, poodle, ...etc.......NOT!!!

Byrdman, et al
Currently, we're in Panama City Beach, FL and will likely be here until Christmas. Planned to do some more (slower...) boating on the GIWW from Corpus Christi but the wind sort of blew us eastward. Trailered to the Panama City Naval Support Activity and enjoying their small FamCamp and marina. Will likely take Naknek along the GIWW to Pensacola in a few days, then back for Christmas (we have friends working at an RV resort here in Panama City Beach, about three miles away.
From here we'll probably head south toward Key West right after Christmas and maybe do the Okeechobee Loop somewhere along the way. (Maybe leave from KW if we can find a place to leave the truck, etc.)
Dang ... it's been COLD down here! ...thought this was supposed to be FLORIDA!!!!!

We did the Loop back in '91, before folks called it the Loop. We had cruised from Houston, around Florida, and up the east coast to Canada when we 'discovered' there was a connection through Chicago and the Illinois River to the Mississippi -- so we did it and it was a great trip around.
Suggestion -- for those considering the Loop, go north up the east coast in spring and down the interior rivers in fall -- that way you miss the fall hurricanes along the coast and you go downriver on the rivers. Sure encourage any of you folks to do it -- a great experience circumnavigating the eastern states.
Now, we trailer around to the "best" spots on the Loop and cruise them in Halcyon. Saves some of the longer treks of the Loop -- but there's nothing like doing the whole thing on your own bottom, so consider it -- it's a great adventure. _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)
