One of the the things we noticed, when one came into Desolation Sound, the people seldom came out of the boat. |

One day on the Trent Severn a large yacht came to the wall behind us. I went over to take the line from the lady on the foredeck(not sure how she planned on reaching the cleat from there). The captain was talking to her from the helm over a walkie talkie. They thanked me for handling the lines and retired to their cabin. We never saw them again although we heard their generator for several hours! One of the reasons we cruise the Trent in September and stay on the lock walls as opposed to marina's is the quiet solitude we enjoy.

Consider the size of your boat. Do you realize this is a
reflection of yourself?
Egos tend to go big. Humility embodies appreciation and
identification with less. I'm sure many large boat owners are
philanthropic and I'm glad of that. So this is not a general
judgement of all large boat owners; just (probably) many.
Don't get me wrong: big boats are a blast, fun, comfortable and
eye catching. However, they are the center of envy and hate by
those without - very many of those without.
I met a family from South Africa in the Azores (1999) who had to
leave their homeland due to the violence of apartheid. Having
lived in Cape Town, they were forced to leave their affluent home
and escape on their sailboat as other "rich men's yachts" were being
destroyed in the local marina by (poor and oppressed) locals. With
others I met from South Africa, their passports were not valid in many
countries.
Aye.

If someone tells you they don't eat cake, unfriend them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. |
