I have the 2006 year tomcat and I believe it to be the 130 gallon tank. Is there an easy way to get to the fuel tanks and take them out and replace them or even get a good cleaning to them.
I am finding debris in my fuel and believe it to be coming from the fuel tanks.
Any suggestions as to how I should clean them?
Can you access the tanks from anywhere in the hull? |

My Tomcat had 2 75 gallon tanks. Not easy to get out! I would attempt to have a “ Manhole” placed in the to of the tanks. This way the tank would remain in place. Access under galley. & under dinette. _________________ Bob Austin

If I were faced with this situation (touch wood), I think I would rig a recirculating pump and filter and let it run for hours until I was sure the fuel in each tank was clean. But, I run additional large filters/water separators already, so maybe that's all you really need.
Cutting openings into the tanks seems, to me, to increase the risk of crud falling into the tank and contaminating the fuel.

I would consider whether the crud source is the fuel hoses rather than the aluminum tanks, esp if ethanol fuel has been used. The hose mfgr advises replacing all the hoses at 10 years from date of mfg, which is stamped on the hose. The factory may have had a supply of hose made long before 2006.
What is the mfg date stamped on your fuel hose?
