Hi,

General query: Last year some time there were pics of an interior window cover "system". The first layer on the window was the heavy mesh for semi-privacy and sun shade. The top layer was sunbrella for complete black out. I've been looking at albums but haven't been able to find. Can anyone direct me?

I'm interested in the fabrication and mounting system and if improvements have been made, or not. Lookin' to do the same on Dive Cat.

Thanks for help.

I'm betting that it's your neighbor Fishtales you're thinking of. Here's his window shades and covers.

I think he goes by Yupurs or something, doesn't he? I don't know what it means, but if it's nasty it will be a good test for the new green guys.

You guys in SoCal have to worry about the sun shade stuff. Up here in the Great NW, just the covers are needed.

I don't see your name on the SBS signup. You would sure enjoy it if you can get away. Bring Roger with you.

Hey Scaley!

Just a passing thought: An alternative to the shade covers (not the black out/privacy ones) would be to tint the windows. Use limo dark tint on the sides and rear ones, and a lighter shade on the windshields. I have it and like it very much. Almost don't need the black out ones, except at C-Brat get togethers with 30 boats rafted up and the Admiral along! Joe.

Well, heck-- YUP URS can't be too nasty, since the state allowed it on our license plate Laughing

I called Linda today to check on what the airline tickets would cost for the SBS Shocked

We had the double set of window covers made so we can have some shade during the day and still see out. The solid covers provide privacy at night- not that we do anything for a show Embarassed

Tyboo

We're keeping an eye on the SBS Gathering and would really like to attend. However, January/Feb will be very busy and Katy will be out of town for part. Will decide later.

Roger Fishtales

Would you pass along a contact name for your cover supplier? I could tow up, get measured, go to Santa Cruz for a week, come back and get installed.

Thanks,
Bob Scaley

Anyone know what size and length of snap/screw to use around the windows to snap the covers to? Were making our own but I don't know the screw size.

Incase you don't know what I'm talking about they look like this:

WOW, I couldn't find that type screw when I was getting ready to make our privacy curtains. I went to the fabric store and purchased the snap sets to be used with screws. Took a screw out of one of the windows in the boat...AND one of our snaps to the hardware store and measured them....we had to cut the end off of the screws because they were just slightly too long...be sure to take your snaps to make sure the head of the screw fits down inside if you are using that type.

Don't know the number of the size, but you can get them at West Marine. They are a standard size.

I have all of the ones that came out of the frames. Not sure of the size, but you can remove one and take it with you when you buy the snap for comparison.

Yes. I know the size and where you can get them CHEAP. But I am at work and don't have the info at my disposal. But don't buy any till I get back to you within the next day or two. I made my own window covers and did exactly what you want to do. Worked like a champ. I may have used too many for the application, but I had so many.

Sorry I took so long. Had to teach a scuba class this weekend and haven't been home. I bought "Snap Fastener Studs 5/8" (Stainless), Part number 2006 from www.lowelldistributing.com, $18.95 per hundred. Their on line description is: "This Snap Fastener Stud is 100% Stainless Steel and is used in Cloth-to-Surface applications. #8 Screw 5/8" long."

They are great folks to deal with. I bought the Sunbrella from them. They sell just about everyting you need for sewing, sailmaking, fasteners, zippers, etc. and are great to talk to.

Go to their website and see what you can find. Happy shopping.
