most everyone thieving here is a tweeker. They're the worst as they are hard to deter. It's a sad sign of the times; more and more people are desperate.

Really sucks to have thieves steal and strip one's boat. I understand the frustration involved, having been hit myself a few times. However, and at the risk of veering off-thread, the notions being expressed regarding our "lenient" criminal justice system might be overblown. The fact is the U.S. leads the world in incarceration rates. More than Russia, more than Iran, more than North Korea. More than any other developed country in the world. Many of those incarcerated are "druggies" who've been snared by the "war on drugs".

Now, we can always build more prisons if anyone thinks that would diminish crime. And the crime does indeed suck, especially when it happens to you.

I don't have a simple answer to this problem. How does a nation instill higher moral behavior in its citizens when their so-called leaders behave so badly? reminds me of the old "do as I say, not as I do" saw.

My better and more thoughtful self feels that more incarceration is unlikely to be effective moving forward.

Bingo. There's no place to put them all when they are caught. Around here, the same folks who complain the most about the lenient system are the exact same ones who keep voting down a tax increase for a bigger prison. It's not just a problem for "leftist" west coast cities. The opiod crisis has hit rural, conservative regions particularly hard as well.

I've been out of touch some, contemplating my navel and all...
But a few thoughts.

So it seems the pendulum is swinging toward the dark side; fake news, lies,
thieves rights, more lies, facts don't matter, science sucks and then there's
even more lies. Like it was maybe before the "Enlightenment" historically.

If we can't beat'em, why not join'em?

This swing has the country divided and reason and logic doesn't seem to account
for much. Emotions are the "new truth" (trouble is acting on and making decisions
on emotion is 'mid-brain' function, not higher center thinking using the neocortex
- that 'intellectual' part of the primate animal brain that separates us from 'lower
animals', like a dog). Truth is a 3 year old human will act like a dog. Both will
crap on your rug. Get where I'm going with this?

There. I've stepped off my soap box.

Aye.
Grandpa used to say, "A delicate thread keeps history from repeating itself."

Did he have insurance on it? That should pay for most the stuff, minus the deductible. I know it still sucks, but if the hull is good, look at it as an opportunity to do some updating. Then again, insurance can be a scam as well, if they don't pay out replacement cost rather than depreciated cost. Good luck to your son either way!

Hoping these will become the "before" pictures and I will be able to post the "after" pictures when she is all shined up again.

Some of the stuff they took off is just silly. Old rod holder mounts, one seat, the back door, 15 year old bilge pumps, a couple cleats. I found the anchor and line laying in the shrubbery plus my scrub brush and two five gallon portable jugs.

It honestly could have been worse. They didn't apparently damage the hull. I was really worried they would have cut the motors off in a bad way etc, but they unbolted them. And the trailer was still intact so I could tow it out of there. But we'll see what the insurance company says about the missing engines, that's a big bill.

Who is talking about prison? OK--that is a bit in jest--but some countries have for more draconian practices for thievery. They have very few thieves. There are people who do better in prison and I have met a few along the way in life. On the other hand, our prisons are like Hilton's in comparison to many other counties gulags.

They sure did strip everything off--even the seats! Glad they didn't chop up the boat!

Good luck with the insurance. Let us know what the insurance company does for you. They should make you whole, and get a good engine back on the boat, as well as replace all which is taken.

Meth is currently going thru a popular resurgence. I've asked multiple junkies why. Some stated they were tired of being "down" (it's called the heroin nod) from the heroin...so what better doper "solution" than to ingest some meth. Rolling Eyes

In the PNW all this got much worse once marijuana was legalized. People now flock here from all over the U.S. They come for the weed and the knowledge that they are immune from prosecution. They stay for all that the leftists offer: "free" everything, lots of available Mexican heroin, the freedom to "urban camp" wherever they want...heck, they even use the sidewalks as their heads.

Then of course, property crimes go thru the roof. They will steal anything/everything. Seattle is currently experiencing a huge increase in property crimes. It's so bad, most victims don't even bother to call 911, so the numbers are actually larger than officially reported. And what better way to combat all this than to decriminalize drug use, larceny etc. Rolling Eyes

Sure glad the boat was found and sound. Parts are replaceable, and as mentioned, a good opportunity for upgrades now. Sorry about the incurred expenses, and hope the insurance is helpful. And, it was recovered quickly.

A good reminder to all to be carefull about storage, and insurance.

Agree with Bob and Mark and many others. Our law, justice and prison systems ARE NOT DETERRENTS to be avoided. Our LE work with their hands tied, and the criminals get VIP treatment. Another lesson, care for your own safety.

That sucks. It is a gut shot, even if all is covered and replaced.
From my limited knowledge it looks like way too much work for the "average" tweaker.

Just guessin'......but I imagine that if I asked a prosecutor: "What's going on?". He or she would have a different explanation.

I suspect that most of the US is like Pensacola--the prosecutors are overwhelmed, the state's attorney's are overwhelmed, the Public Defenders are overwhelmed--spend a few minutes with each case...the courts are overwhelmed, and the jails are overwhelmed--and some are literally like zoos. Solution? Certainly not more drugs!

Sure. Of course. They would provide you some "liberalese" explanation...use lots and lots of words that don't mean anything. Like inclusiveness and consensus and caring and how the police are just jack-booted racist thugs who don't "care about people of color"...blah, blah, blah. I call it professional victimization. I hear it all the time. Just listen to Obama talk. Lots and lots of words that don't mean anything substantial. But when your constituents are all sheep... Luckily, the good people of Seattle have appeared to reach their breaking point. The masses are upset and the few "activists" are on the defense. The coming election will be telling. I'm hoping for a complete sweep of 7 of the 9 council members. But time will tell...

By the way, they all do it, Demo-socialists, I mean. They are experts. It must be a required class for membership.

Hate to see a political smear of people who get put in the same bucket by someone making gross generalizations. Not all dems are freeloaders and rulebreakers...Thanks...but I guess I do not know it all!
