Sorry to hear about the loss of your son's boat Jack! It has to take a professional rat-bag to pull off something as brazen as this! You need to put the notice out on marine radio, especially with the fishing fleet. And maybe it wise to alert the "Mounties" in case of it being hauled southbound. I always pull a wheel when storing long term but what a pain if you use the boat on a daily basis! I wish you well in your attempt at recovering the boat.

Can you get me a picture of his boat Jack? I have been spending a lot of time between Homer, Seward & Whittier.

The good news is it has been located hidden under a large tarp behind a garage on upper O'Malley road. 3 police men showed up and they have 5 scumbags in handcuffs and in jail.

It has been totally stripped of everything screwed on it except the teak hand holds and bow rail. Motors and hydr. steering gone....cabin door gone., anyone have an extra?
All life jackets gone, rod holders and down riggers gone. tool boxes gone, batteries gone. Two full fuel tanks and filters gone
The hull is ok and the trailer with new tires and bearings
is good.

This whole thing makes me feel like I have been nut kicked...... as well as my son. That was my boat bought new in 1983. I caught many fish in it and had many good times with the family. My son Dan has been doing the same thing and was supposed to go out tomorrow morning with his family.. Not now or for a long time.
It is fixable but expensive to do and some things hard to replace..
Thanks for any help that you provided. Keep your boats locked up and secure.

Thanks,

Jack & Dan Rathert

Crime in Anchorage has gotten totally out of control. To many druggies in that town these days. At least they didn't steal the tow vehicle, too - although if car theft continues like it has been, that'll be next.

Hopefully one of the five will roll over on his buddies. That much gear is difficult to fence in a couple of days. The motor should be traceable. Keep watching Craig's list etc for it and other parts all over the US.

Who has use for a C Dory cabin door? The fuel tanks etc. I know it is far away and the freight would be too much, but one of the vendors on The Hull Truth, will replace stolen parts at his cost--no profit.

That sort of theft is getting pretty low--and as far as I am concerned, our justice system is too lenient.

We had a few thefts like that on our street; several of us put in high def video systems and we beefed up the neighborhood watch. Signs that 24/7 video was being obtained. Caught 3 different burglars and put them away with the video's. One was only out of prison a few weeks-- a druggie with over 30 prior felonys! However, we have not had any thefts on our street for several years now--word gets around. I know this does not help Jack--but it may help someone else.

Hopefully insurance will help cover the loss....

You are being too kind, with our catch & release legal system, Anchorage is a class A SHITHOLE.

Glad the APD found the kids boat. Hopefully he had plenty Insurance & now is a good time to up grade everything.

I have been in LE long enough to see the total and utter gutting of the criminal justice system. Catch and release is totally true. I've even witnessed/experienced the virtual de-criminalization of vast amounts of laws; stealing a car in Seattle is now not a crime. Literally. It's still on the books, but the "prosecutors" wont' charge. Criminals don't fear prison time like they used to, since they know it will either be short or not at all and that short time will be like a vacation. Free medical, free cable, free food...sports and work out facilities provided. The criminals are the victims. The victims somehow "deserved it". And LE is the enemy.

America had better wake up...

Sheesh, that is awful. Hope this has a good outcome. In my mind I picture AK as being immune from all these problems...I guess not.

Aye.

Aristotle said it long ago:"At his best, man is the noblest of animals; separated
from law and justice, he is the worst."

How does stealing a boat today compare with stealing a horse some years earlier?

Aye.

Horse theft was never a capitol offense in the United States or its Territories historically. However 52 executions for horse thievery are recorded since 1608. I suspect that these were during colonial times. However there have been a few documented vigilante hangings for horse thievery.

Great Britain had capitol punishment, and there were public hangings for horse theft.

Property crimes are looked upon as no big deal by prosecutors. Period. They don't give a rat's ass about victims or how hard good, honest people work for the "stuff" that gets stolen. Ergo, thieves used to be held accountable. Not anymore. In Seattle, they are pretty much allowed free reign. Trust me. I see it daily. I don't imagine there's any difference in the large leftist-coast cities.

Like I said; America had better wake up before it's too late.
