Getting ready to install a SmartPlug shore power inlet, Blue Sea AC Panel, and Battery Charger. Where would one mount the inlet on a C-22? My plan is to mount the panel above the door, in the cabin. The inlet might work in the little storage trough on the starboard side. What do you think? |

Mine is through the aft cabin bulkhead about knee height, about a foot inboard of the sidewall. It is a convenient enough place for it. I have seen some pictures where the plug is through the aft bulkhead, but under the gunwale. |

Our "Red Top" is a 2007 model and has the shore power 30A plug receptical in the trough on the starboard side, going through the cabin bulkhead to the battery charger mounted inside on the cabin bulkhead wall. The switches for the circuits are mounted on the wall behind the stove. _________________ Art Smith

That makes four installations in the same general area. Thanks for the input. |

I had added 110 to two C Dory 22's. None of these had huge power draws--all were less than 15 amps. Thus I put the shore power inlet plug on the starboard side, under the gunnel, where it is protected. I put a breaker and on/off switch under the galley counter aft on the aft bulkhead. I then put one outlet just outboard and back of the helm seat for the galley (GFI), and one under the rear seat of the dinette. The 3rd outlet box was next to the breaker/fuse under the galley counter, where I put the plug in for the battery charger. Simple, and all of the components are well protected and out of the way.
The 25's and larger have refrigerators, microwaves, water heaters, air conditioning, etc, and they require the 30 amp setup. Rare to find anything near that in a 22. _________________ Bob Austin

Thanks for the photos. A picture is worth a thousand words. I'm following your lead and others with the Inlet I'm thinking of installing the AC panel above the door way along with a new DC panel later. It drives me nuts to have a panel at my knees when at the helm. That hole will be a glove box of sorts when I am done.
Also will move the windshield wiper switches up where I can easily find them without looking, one on each side of the wheel.
Still haven't figured out where to put the Blue Sea battery charger. That might end up in the compartment where the water tank was till I pulled it out and found nasty growth inside. (New boat to me, 2004) We're trying out portable water jugs designed for potable water, seven gallons each.
Setting up the boat to my needs has taken way longer than I thought it would. But that is another story.
Great pics, thanks again. |
