Gary,

Les has a 50 E-Tec on a 16 ft. aluminum boat - one sweet engine. Your friend will love a pair of them.

They sell many Yamaha's here in the US, but not nearly as popular as they are in Canada or AK. Don't know why... I've had both the 80 and 100 Yamaha and really like them both. I'd prefer the 115 like Red Fox has, but my boat won't legally take it. The 22 isn't a speed boat anyway, but there are times more power would be nice.

Sawdust,

How does the 50 E-Tec compare in weight with the Honda 50?

I thought the E-Tec was supposed to be quite a bit lighter than the 4 strokes.

I don't have the numbers here. The 90 E-tec is lighter by quite a bit than the 90 4-strokes... the 50 E-tec is a little heavier... just from memory, so don't throw darts!!!

Yes, Gary -

Les is my son - and EQ is a dealer for a bunch of brands - Honda, Johnson, Nissan, etc. EQ was a Yamaha service center for quite a while, but gave that up. Wish he still worked on Yamahas, but c'est la vie.

IMO and experience there just isn't a bad one in the bunch. This is a tough business, and they have to be good to hang in there. I've been able to run just about all of them - some for many hours, and I'd be hard pressed to pick a winner.
I've been fishing for 6-7 years (over 2,000 hours) with Honda -- absolutely bullet-proof. The Yamahas have been 100 percent reliable and the lists goes on! I'm really sold on E-Tec, and think they have really done their homework... time will tell.
