Hi Folks,

Quick question I am thinking that my motors might not be quite aligned - see image below - and wondering if I should be concerned or how hard it would be to make sure they are both aligned. I had the power steering all replaced last season with the gaskets and such and wondering if when the put all that back together they did not align thing properly. I would assume that the measurement on each side of the rod that slides through the hydraulic steering should be the same for both motors.

Anyway this photo is taking looking down from my boat top and I did measure and notice that the rod is not the same for both motors.

Would appreciate any thoughts or experience. Not causing any really issues and I track well but just was concerned.

Thanks!!

Joe/Sundog

If you have a "liquid tie bar" hydraulic connection. You can open the valve that connects the two motors, then position them where you want and close the valve again. I position them to both have a slight toe in.

As Brent says, you want a slight toe in.

Here is the online copy of instruction manual

Page 11 gives the full instructions:

Engines/Drives/Rudders Toe’d outwards; Props too far apart

• Turn the steering wheel hard over to starboard (both cylinders move, starboard cylinder reaches hard over first).
• OPEN alignment Valve
• Continue to turn the wheel hard over to starboard until the port
cylinder reaches hard over. • CLOSE the valve.
• Turn wheel hard over to Port. (both cylinders move, port cylinder reaches hard over first).

Engines/Drives/Rudders Toe’d inwards; Props too close together

• OPEN alignment valve.
• Continue to turn the wheel hard over to port until the starboard
cylinder reaches hard over. • CLOSE Valve.

Since you want slight toe in, you use the first instruction, and set about 2 to 3* of toe in.

The valve is located in the Stbd battery compartment. Follow the hydraulic hoses.

Thanks so much, a little nervous to try it but I think I understand.

I will give it a try and report back.
