I'm looking for help regarding the Pittsburgh area. How is the boating? Where to keep boat? Where to launch boat?
We anticipate relocating to the greater Pittsburgh PA next year. We currently live in SE Michigan and keep our CD22 on the trailer in our front yard, trailering to our various destinations.
One problem I see is the Pittsburgh area roads are all wicked hills and turns. The likelihood of being able to keep our boat on whatever property we get is probably close to nil. Second, while there are three major rivers, there doesn't appear to be many places to keep a boat in the water, nor places to launch when looking to tool around.
Are there any C-Brats out there that live in the area that could provide a little insight or guidance?

Do you know where in the Pittsburgh area you will be living? I’m about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh. As far as river boating, We put in at Black Diamond near Monongahela. Plenty of places to go aside from the rivers. Ask anything you need about the area and I’ll try to help. We spend a fair amount of time at Cheat Lake WV and Deep Creek Lake MD.

I pm'd Mark and he's provided a lot of info that's appropriate for where we'll likely end up. Thank you Mark.
Meanwhile, looking around, I see the Chesapeake will be only 4.5 to 5 hours away. Wow, does that present some nice new cruising territory. Looks like a gunkholers delight. I'll have to start lurking around the Chesapeake threads. Woohoo! |
