Link to Boat Test article on new Honda 425. Looks about six feet tall and close to 1000 lbs. What a monster! Outboards have come a long way.

With four of these on the transom you will apparently burn fuel at a measly 144 GPH at WOT. Think of the savings if you slow down.

Yamaha and others are playing "Catch up". Seven Marine started offering V8 outboards back in 2010. The current line up is 557 HP and 627 HP. Seven Marine was acquired by Volvo Pent in 2017. This means that Volvo Marine is getting back into outboards. Weight is 1000 lbs and price is in the $ 70,000 per basic engine--price can go on up from there.

Yamaha, suspended the higher HP production--such as the 300 hp--as they moved facilities this year.

I have checked out the Seven Marine engines at the boat shows. Not sure what I would ever put one on but they are beautiful! Pic in my album here - http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album1611&id=IMG_2284_1&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php shows one with the cowling off.

Looks like we will be seeing fewer motors on seasports , fountain and other big sport fishing boats. I wonder what the fuel economy is compared to a Sea sport or costal craft with a diesel ? yes they weight less but what is the fuel burn at the same speed?
