And, why would anyone put their boat on sale in that condition? This one looks rough and the seller does not seem to be trying very hard.

Maybe his wife told him he has to sell it & he is not in any big hurry.

The holes don't bother me at all, big discount small repair. Mr. Green Mr. Green (looks like someone stole some docking lights?)

It’s difficult to judge a boat by photos. The engines are 2015 so it’s repowered. The electronics are said to be newer. I’d have to get more details and have it surveyed IF I were interested. Boats tend to get soiled when they sit. It’s worth what someone is willing to pay. Look at what a new one costs and then figure out you’d have to add to it. May not be that far off?

Tom

It is the two holes in the bow hull that get me. Any ideas as to what happened there?

Ask any yacht broker why people don't have their boats in tip top shape to sell. Often they are tired of that boat, and don't want to spend the money or effort--just get rid of it...Doesn't make any sense to me.

I agree that the holes look like there were docking lights there. It would be a fairly easy repair from the outside--pretty tough to reach for a proper backing on the inside!

A little elbow grease and the boat would be OK--assuming no major problem structurally or with engines. Marie and I discussed this boat, and decided we didn't want to trailer another Tom Cat. Price is about right. There is so much information missing at the web site. Again--a seller and broker who don't care about getting the details right and out there.

BillE,
Dumb exposed place to put docking lights if you ever go places where you could get green water over the bow (and roof). Or a sneeze, which will happen. Dock lights don't do well with either the saltwater or all that mucous.
Both holes enter a totally enclosed forward section of the sponsons which have inside access doors in the forward berth. You could chain-saw off these
sections of each sponson and not affect floatation. It would affect cosmetics considerably, though.
I just installed a forward Armstrong dive ladder mount that is even more forward than these (curves over the rub rail at the starboard corner). At 6 ft 1/2 and 145# with narrow shoulders and long arms this was challenging but I did it.
You could get it repaired cheap from the outside and don't worry about it.
This could also be an estate sale where the spouse doesn't know how it's equipped, but the broker has a survey price. Consider calling, if interested arrange your own survey (which will under-value this rig as a niche market) and drive down to meet surveyor for a sea trial. I wouldn't want 2007 outboards, but 2015's in 2018....sure.
Don't be 'boatless' forever, you're not getting younger and the fun part of life can be short.
I agree that EITHER an owner who cares, or a dealer who cares, would post a lot more details.
You're blessed if you've found an owner and a dearler who don't.
Cheers, and happy hunting!
John

Looks good to me. A fresh coat of bottom paint and wash/wax then she's probably good to go.

Price is "fair" because the power is only 3 years old. But I'd be more comfortable paying somewhere in the high $60k's for that rig. The radar arch is a nice touch. It'd be nice to actually see the electronics or at least list them. Lol. The sales guy is a dud.

I called on the boat when it first came on the market. It was used as a Coast Guard Auxiliary boat in South Florida. I did a FaceTime tour of the boat with the broker. To me it appears like it was “rode hard and put away wet.” I didn’t see anything major wrong with it, just no improvements and little to no cosmetic maintenance. The holes are where there were docking lights installed. The lights were removed and the wires remain. The gelcoat on the sides shows wear and tear from being side tied for towing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all boats are a compromise. I am looking for a TomCat that has been pampered by a more typical C-Dory owner myself, but this appears to be the only used 255 on the market right now. The owner has a new boat according to the broker; he may be willing to deal. I heard that he turned down an offer for $50K.
