We just got our WA. State renewal for our King trailer. Going to pay it I notice it says this:

Did you know you could get a permanent registration for your trailer for a onetime fee of $187.50 instead of having to pay a renewal fee each year? Surprised

Our renewal is only $26.75 so it would take 7 yrs to break even. I'm going to do it, as we don't anticipate selling this boat for quite a while. (I still have 4 yrs until I "pop smoke" at work) Appears one needs to "apply" for this and have a "Good to Go" account: http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/intermittent-use-trailer-plates.html

Anyone know if this is something new? Or did I just not see this until today? I would have done this years ago...

I've never seen that before either, must be relatively new. I'd jump on it, they way taxes and registration fees keep going up around here, who knows, your trailer registration could be $187.50 just for one year, within a couple years!

It would be nice if they offered a permanent registration in Florida

We are lucky here in Alberta. There is a one time registration fee of $100 for all trailers. Buy your plates once and never worry about them again. I wish they would do that for cars and trucks.

Washington does have a one-time permanent vehicle registration scheme. I've used it. The vehicle simply has to be more than 30 years old. It specifically lists "travel trailers" and you might get by with a boat trailer. All you need is a boat trailer with a VIN number from 1988, pass a WaSP safety check, and claim that it is a "collector vehicle." Good luck.

This is not the CV program. I'm aware of that and both my vintage VWs are CV. This is different. There are certain restrictions but our boat trailer & car hauler satisfy all of them. Under 2000#, not used commercially etc. I'm going to go to the licensing office and see.

Will never happen in WA. The greedy gobment needs BILLIONS to pay for a choo-choo train. Gotto keep them unions happy, ya know.

In VA you can get a permanent plate for boat trailers if you want. With the title fees, registration fees, plate fees, etc. It cost me $185 for a permanent plate when I bought my boat.

Check out this WA statute.

https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.16A.428

"A trailer in good working order that has a scale weight of two thousand pounds or less and is used only for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, and parades, and for occasional pleasure use, is considered an intermittent-use trailer and may be issued a permanent registration."

That's me. I go to C-Brat activities. I go on tours. I try to avoid parades, but sometimes end up in them at the fuel dock. The one-time fee is $187.50 and the license can't be transferred. Looks like it may be calculated to make it not worth trying.

This is the same but I have either not seen it or it's new. I have an enclosed car hauler too.

Found the answer in the RCW:
Quote:
Effective date—2015 c 200: "This act takes effect January 1, 2017."

So it is new. Last year was the first year it was in effect.
