I Intend to tow my CDory 25 and EZ loader trailer with a 2/5/16 ball receiver hitch size 2X2. What rating does this require? I am thinking a class 4 at least.
Suggestions? |

Well, you're only towing 9000# max. All I've ever used is the regular hitch with a 2 5/16 ball and an adjustable hitch fitting into the 2x2 receiver. never asked what the class was. On searching the internet, they're good for 14,000#
Level the trailer with the adjustable hitch, put grease on the top of the ball and go for it. Don't forget the safety chains and the breakaway cable.
Try to buy American made.

Boris, I'm always amazed at the number of guys I see towing trailers around some with quite heavy tongue weights on a dry, rusty old ball. Most have no idea what problems can arise with no lubrication. _________________ Talk to me and I will listen-- but if its not about boats or fishing all I will hear is bla, bla, bla, yada, yada, zzzzzzzz |

Class IV is good for 10,000 lbs without the weight distribution hitch, and 14,000 with.
Class III is good to 6,000 lbs. Both use a 2 x 2" tube. Carrier for the ball. If it is rated for a 2 5/16, it should be a class IV.
I agree with Boris, that an adjustable hitch is best. But you may be like me; where thru the years I have hitch ball carriers which are from 2" above to 7" below the ball...I just seem to have accumulated them... _________________ Bob Austin

What thataway said exactly! Ball mount needs to be 10,000 # rated. Ball height needs to be adjusted so loaded trailer is level when hooked to truck. |

I'm up to three different ones already. I should just bite the bullet and buy an adjustable. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."
