Just a bump for a date reminder. The potluck is scheduled for Sept 22-23 at Oak Canyon. Saturday 9/22 is the potluck...

We will try and be in to there at least a day early to stake out a site. Of course people will be on the pond before and after that weekend. I hope to see you there!

Well, there is a good possibility I may be back in the game for this gathering. Trying to work out some personal preferences, my wife's new work schedule, and some other changes to our calendar. Or too many C-Brat events in a short period of time or at the same time. All thrown in with my own extensive travel during the midwest's boating season...or safe trailering season! Colby Rolling Eyes

We are seeing if our schedule will work but would love to make it to Powell. We would come a week or two early. Is there anyone coming from the NW that we might travel with on the way down?

We won't make the gathering this year as we have to much to do on the ranch. Also the weather is still too nice up here in the north and too hot in the south. We are planning to be on the lake between about October 4 and 18. We will be launching from Bull Frog. If you see us, we love to meet up with another brat or two.

Fred, I have wanted to get to Lake Powell for several years. I still want to, and kind of follow this thread quietly each time. Let's just safe it is not off the radar. If I go, I would love to travel and buddy boat along.

So, at this time, I am planning on Lake Powell. If my plans stick, right now I'm looking at launching at Bull Frog Bay late on Monday, Sept 17th, or early on the 18th. Then loading out late on the Thursday the 27th, or early on the 28th. Colby

Diana and I are planning on leaving the NW after 9/10, taking 3-4 days to get to LP. I think we are going to launch at Bullfrog.

I think our route will be via a lot of backroads, for two reasons. One, it’s more scenic. Two, I hate driving through Salt Lake. TBD... Fred, Harvey if you want to travel together, let me know.

Another thing to consider, take a day to rest and finish prepping the boat once you get there. You’re pooped from driving, it’s hotter than you’re used to, and we ain’t getting any younger.

So true, and good advice, but wouldn't it be better resting on the water because, hopefully, it would be cooler?

I am giving it some consideration. As to driving through SLC, I have done it at almost every convievable time and found the best time, least traffic, to be about 03 - 04 on a Sunday morning. (For those unaware, SLC traffic on I-15 is speed limited at 70mph, and actually moves at 80 -85 in the slow lane. Below that you are impeding traffic. And the fast lane, 5 lanes over to the left is running at 90.) SLC traffice is really a near 90 mile stretch from Brigham City to Spanish Fork.

Worth looking at a "Go Around" route option, for sure.

Unless your going to drive an extra 200 miles I don’t know how your going to avoid SLC I drive it all day long most cars moving at 65 some at 75. Coming from the north get off of I-15 at Lagoon and get on Legacy south it connects to I-215 south. Stay on 215 south until it connects back to I-15 at about 7200 south. Take highway 6 at Spanish Fork to Price. Price Walmart is probably the best place to provision. Then head for Hanksville and into Bullfrog. The south end of the lake is 2 hours more depending on your route with provisioning in Page.

Harvey, if all you have to do is splash the boat and go, then yes. If you’re getting things out of the truck, readying the boat, then I’d take a rest day...

We often take the "Western Loop" around SLC. Also stay at the "Pony Express Campground" Just off the North end loop--and a nice day's drive to Powell from there...Never any problem driving a 22 or 25 thru SLC, but we have practiced in Los Angeles Traffic!
