Hello C Brats: I have a 2007 22Angler. Can anyone offer any insight regarding the cap or cowling on the top of the stern? Is is decorative or necessary to prevent water penetration? Mine seems to be coming loose and I am not sure how to address this. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

2000 model Mine had a rubber cap pulled loose in one corner. Water had seeped in underneath the cap and between the fiber glass and blue board parts of the transom, requiring repair. After the repair, I routered the transom top down 1/2 inch and epoxied and glassed the void. Now the cap is only cosmetic.

The plastic cap covers the hull to deck joint. (The deck, cabin sides, and cockpit are all one piece. The Cabin roof another, and the hull the 3rd piece.

It is cosmetic--there should be a good seal with some glass over this area.....but...in some boats there is just a filler. I would put some black boat life Life Seal under the cap which is coming up, and put weights on it until this goes off.

Ours started lifting off, very slightly. I filled the void with black 5200 and clamped it down. On the older boats (I couldn't tell you what specific years) the core was plywood. Any intrusion of water is very bad and will cause the wood to rot. On the newer boats it is foam that does not absorb water. Our 2007 is foam cored. It's not a good design either way, IMO.
