Finally checked one, really two, to-do's off the list. Installed a backup camera and two LED lights to augment the reverse lights in our lo-tech 2005, F250. Camera/LCD mirror comes on when in reverse. Lights do the same, or flip a switch and they stay on, but only when the ignition is on. No more guessing when I back up to the trailer, solo. Cool

Looks great! Which camera, monitor did you use. I see you have a SCAN Gauge--which are also very handy for towing! (Monitor's engine and transmission computer output).

Good job, Han! Solo is good.

Be careful with that stay-on switch. I hear the cops up there can be real tough on the rules.

Another handy benefit of the camera, at least for us paranoid guys, is the ability to reassure yourself one last time that the chains are hooked up and the coupler latch is engaged.

Hey Mark, That looks nice. I like the back up lights, very nice. I have wanted to add a headache rack and backup/load lights for a long time just never "got a round toit".

I did do a rear view camera that runs from the battery in the boat and looks out the back window of the boat so I can monitor the traffic behind the boat from the truck. It is helpful when backing the boat up also.

Tiny camera. I removed the lock from the tailgate handle and inserted the camera there. I never used the lock anyway. Ran the cable down, inside the tailgate and drilled a small hole at the bottom. Inserted a rubber grommet, pulled the cable thru.. It has a disconnect, to I can remove the tailgate should I need to.

Mirror is just an inexpensive 4.3" LCD version from Amazon.com.

Both wires protected by a 1/4" split loom and zip-tied to the stock wire loom in the driver's side frame.

Scan gauge is cheap insurance to monitor temps. I've put a bunch of money into the 6.0 liter to avoid any long term issues that they are known for...it will be my last pickup.

Thanks, Harvey. The stock lights are insufficient, even with aftermarket LED bulbs I installed. These should help. I can really see the difference, especially in the camera.

Laughing Yep. White lights to the rear while driving is HIGHLY illegal. Wink I figured they may come in handy for trailer activities/chores...you never know.

So my friend Mike is driving down highway 50 in his land cruiser and I am riding shotgun. Now land cruisers are not fast . Hard to keep one at highway speed with 40 inch tires. Some ahole pulls up behind us and starts tail gating really close. I get tired of it and reach down and turn on the 4 big white lights that face rear. Two on the roll bar and two on the rear bumper. It was funny as hell until the tail gater turned on his reds and blues.

Nice job!

Been thinking of going this rout: Smartphone blue tooth backup camera>>

https://www.amazon.com/Camecho-Transmitter-Waterproof-Compatible-Android/dp/B01N1YUSNL/ref=sr_1_8/142-4094083-9707232?ie=UTF8&qid=1512162324&sr=8-8&keywords=wireless+bluetooth+backup+camera

Have a dash mount for my Smartphone so would be an easy cheap install.

As for backup lights, can't remember the last time I hooked up the boat in the dark; stays light up here during summer boating season. The unit does come with LED lights around the camera but doubt they are much.

Like you I’m holding on to my 00 F250, has the 7.3 and just shy of 90k; should be my last truck. I only use for towing, not much else.

For another project how about a wireless and water-proof rear (backup) camera for the C-Dory? I use a suction cup mount for the LCD display on my boat windshield when cruising, and simply move the wireless display to the truck windshield when towing. I find it much better than a boat rear view mirror when cruising, and I can better see what's following me when I'm towing or backing up my Tomcat.

Some pictures are in my album

I too put in a backup camera, a Garmin. It works very well and helps me get out of parking spaces when surrounded by oversized pickups and suvs The camera is that little black thing on the license plate holder, to the left of the "M".Laughing

Jay, I looked at those but most need access to the OBD port under the dash. My OBD is already in use due to the Scan Gauge. That one looks like the access is not required. Like to know how it works.
