Does anyone know the make of the manual windshield wipers that were used in the 16' C-Dory? _________________ Seattle Writer Guy |

I would like a wiper for the center tilt out window. Would I have to have a hole in the glass or would it work if it were mounted below with a hole through the fiberglass or would that interfere with enter window operation? Has anyone done this? |

I think mounting it below would keep the window from opening, but it could be mounted at the top, no hole in the glass and could do the trick. I have thought about mounting a manual wiper there for simplicity, but there is a bunch of stuff in the way so have not done it.

Drill the correct size hole, thru the fiberglass above the window frame.. Check the geometry of opening before drilling, so you you can still open the window all of the way. _________________ Bob Austin

The Sea Dog wiper arm has straight out flexibility, no problem opening window; you can also swing it up and to the side. Have pictures of installation in my album. |

Thank you for the replies kids! I'll start shopping for a wiper. That sea dog wiper got some iffy reviews. Triple j, do you remember where you got yours, it looked good to me. |

I installed a Sea Dog wiper. It's so simple I don't know how they got iffy reviews. Worked well for a couple of years. Thought I'd have to replace the rubber blade, but still original, even though it's from China. Gives Judy something to do in wiping the window.

Boris, That looks great. Are there any clearance issues with the shelf on the inside? It is just a handle, is the position of that adjustable (angle in relation to where the wiper blade is?) I did look at your album pix. Looks doable.

There were 110 customer reviews of the sea dog wiper. I went thru the first 5 or 6 pages. Many said they thought it was rather cheaply made & didn't last long. Made in China could come into play there but for the price I could afford to replace. There were also glowing reviews as well! Thanks again |

I just replaced my blades on both the manual Seadog and the motorized AFI. I just went on Amazon and bought a set of quality 24" wiper blades (with the metal backing part). I couldn't find anything with just the blades.
The CD 16 uses 12" blades. I pulled a new one apart, cut the blade in half, and (with a little fiddling), pulled out the old and put in the new. Cost $8 and I still have one 24" length for the future. The blade holding system for the AFI and the Seadog differ, but it didn't matter.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009IK4OA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also made an electrical change. Not to the electric wiper switch, but to the switch next to it. My Lowrance sounder/chart plotter switch is next to the wiper. If I happen to turn off the wiper and hit the Lowrance switch, I'm without depth and GPS info until it reboots. So I put in a covered switch for the Lowrance to keep me from accidentally getting the wrong switch.
Had I seen these, I might have been interested in one (assuming it would fit). https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rocker-Push-Switch-Style-Car-Marine-Boat-Blue-LED-12V-Voltmeter-Dual-USB-Charger/112590277780?epid=1274792969&hash=item1a36e74c94:g:81YAAOSwEkhZ1jEA&vxp=mtr
My starboard AFI has self-parking, but the wire to use that feature was never connected. I'm thinking of going electric on the port side and using the self parking feature for both. On the 16 cruiser, a manual on the port side is kind of a pain as it requires leaving the seat. I may have a manual wiper for sale in the near future.

Hardee, I don't remember any issues. Just drill the hole and install the wiper. I think it adjusts any way you want, at least it's out of the way.
My God, this thread has long since passed the date it should have died.

Boris, Thanks for the reply. It looks simple enough, I just have a bunch more "stuff" under that shelf so trying to sort out if I want to try it or not. All good info.
