Hi everyone, I've been away from this site since we garaged our beloved Dory. Finally decided to move it to our marina where hopefully we will use her more. Unfortunately, it is an open dry storage and we'll need a boat cover. Please point me to previous links or if anyone has any ideas or advice. My budget is a meager one💲.Will be posting pics soon. Great to be back! _________________ My father was a boater, God bless his soul for sharing his passion. Thinking of you every time I drop ⚓️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 |

Angola canvas: Has the patterns for most of the C Dorys Let them know if there are any unusual lumps or bumps. Good value, with Sunbrella. _________________ Bob Austin

You are going to get more than my recommendation but we have a full cover from Angola Canvas in Sunbrella and we are very happy with their work. They added covers for twin engines and also made the sides long enough to cover the color stripe. |

Trifecta for Angola. We ordered ours in 2010 and have used it ever since. Anytime the boat is in the driveway, it is covered. So we have gotten 6 years out of it. It's dirty. It's a little green. In sun. In snow. In rain. But it is still there and still water proof. No sign of it deteriorating except the thread is looking worn. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

Got my cover from Angola Canvas. Their cover prices are competitive with other custom covers. The price is dependent on the material selection, they have a few choices. There are very few places that have an existing pattern for a C-Dory.
I asked for some mods from the stock design initially. I sent them marked up pictures showing where all the reinforcements should go. Once I got it, I decided I wanted a few more changes and pads, and they fixed it up for a very reasonable price. Amongst other changes, mine covers the sides of the boat down to the trailer fenders.
It was all done over the phone and via email.
The only thing I had to do was add some more eyelets and the tie down lines. |

What's the general price for a cover?
$500? $1000? $1500?
Last one I had custom made for an airplane was $400. No idea on a boat.
Are these covers tailorable? Installable with one person? |

For frame of reference, we got a Sunbrella cover for our 25 from Angola two years ago for about 1200.00, which included a motor cover and some minor changes to the standard pattern to fit our boat.
I took pictures of our boat and provided some specific measurements they requested. In effect, they will tailor the standard pattern to your specs.
I can put on and remove the cover by myself using the following approach:
I sort of roll the cover as I uncover the boat working toward the front from the cockpit. By the time I get to the bow, I have a long roll of cover hanging equally to both sides of the bow. I then toss it to the ground and fold the long roll into a smaller package for storage. Reverse the process when installing it.

Contact Angola Canvas for the current prices. Below are the models that Angola has patterns for. The last number is the number of Sq yards of Sunbrella used--and determines the price.
The tabular format does not translate well to the forum.
C-Dory 6929A 25' Cruiser Full 2004 43.25
C-Dory 6929B 25' Cruiser Aft Curtain 2004 13.5
C-Dory 6927 19 Angler 2003 32.5
C-Dory 6574 22' Cruise 2001 36.75
C-Dory 7908 22 Angler 2001 37.25
C-Dory 6380 16 Angler 2000 22
C-Dory 6400 16' Cruise 2000 26.25
For example a C Dory 25 cover will use almost 2x that of a 16, thus the increased in amount of material and cost.
If possible try and get one of the UV resistant threads. They cost ten times as much as standard threads, but last years longer, with out the costly re-sewing of seams, due to UV degradation of the thread.
I have found Angola to be very responsive about the customization. I have also modified their covers myself, such as when I added Radar, and made a cutout for the dome, and then made a cover for the dome on top of the strut.
They will re-enforce areas where there are cleats or spots where chafing may occur.
For example Pacific Blue (the most common boat cover color) is $23 a running yard for 46" wide, and $27 a yard for the 60" wide. I usually go with the 60" wide for most marine projects. |

Well, at least I know what I am in for. Thank you!
Is there a "cheap" alternative? Do the generic costco/Cabelas boat or rv covers work for a damn? |

I ordered a new cover from Angola over a month ago. Nothing. I called them and they stated they were awaiting the Sunbrella fabric...but that was over two weeks ago and I've heard nothing. |

Lots of things have supply and delivery issues right now. Maybe Sunbrella is one of them. The other issue is that some places are short on workers. |

The probably explains why they were relatively unresponsive to take new orders. |
