Eleonor and I and Charley dog are thinking about a cruise into the Sea of Cortez as early as next month. We would trailer our 16' Cruiser, See-Saw from Santa Fe crossing into Mexico at Nogales South of Tucson. We would like to explore the mid-drift islands of Tiburon and Isla Angel from Bahia Kino. We like to sleep aboard or beach camp with occasional restaraunt and motel sorties.

We would appreciate any insight, local knowledge or experience you could share with us or know of anyone who would care to join us. Bill and El suggested Fred Kistler, Captain D or Chris, Rana Verde may have some suggestions. Bill and El will be in Tucson in mid November and we hope to see them there then.

Any ideas? Bruce on See-Saw Rolling Eyes

I've been checking into possibly launching out of San Diego and taking a 1-2 day trip into Mexican waters for fishing.
Vagabundos del Mar seems to be the place for information for boat permits and fishing licenses. They also provide for RV'rs.

Roger,

Another good source is Discover Baja California Travel Club. We have been members for years, and use them to obtain insurance, boat permits and fishing licenses, before entering Mexico. They are similar to Vagabundos del Mar, which we also have belonged to.

Brent,

Thanks. Can you post a link for them?
Hope you guys are having a blast.
When we were in San Diego, I was looking at the Coronado Islands. That got me to thinking about going into Mexican waters.

Roger,

Not sure how to include the link. Just do a Google search for Discover Baja. They have an office in San Diego. You can get things by mail, phone, online, or pick them up on you're way through SD.

For a Mexico boat permit and Mexican fishing licenses, you need only go to the tackle shop at Point Loma Sportfishing
1403 Scott Street
San Diego, CA 92106

A C-22 and one Mexican license for one calendar year is $98. 22 ft. is the cutoff for what is considered a "small" boat. Prices are higher for the C-25, Roger.

Every person on board must have a Mexican fishing license if the boat itself has any fishing gear on board. Even one hook on board means licenses for all. (I can't remember exactly but it's about $33 for a one week license and $45 for a full year.

You must show the boat registration papers, but it's pretty painless at Point Loma Sportfishing.

Brent, a quick easy way to include a link in your post.

1. Go to the page you want a link to. There should be a window/box at the top of your browser page that is the address of the page you are on.
2. Click on the address once with the left mouse button and it will become highlighted.
3. Now with the mouse cursor still over the address, using the right mouse button, click on it.
4. A popup menu will appear, click on Copy in the menu.
5. Now draft your post on this site and where you want the link to go, using the right mouse button, click once and a popup menu will appear.
6. Click on Paste in the menu.

The only thing you want to make sure of, is that there is a blank space before and after the link you pasted.

I'll be going to the Fred Hall Fishing Show in Long Beach next Friday. I'll also check the info booths there.

Yet another (cheaper) spot for fishing/boat permits.

Just got back from Cabo San Lucas on the 25th.
One seven hour trip from Pamilla (sp) Marina resulted in six hooked Marlin. Two made it on the boat, two were lost at the side of the boat, and two were lost 100 feet out. Spectatular fishing trip. The boat was the 3 Amigos. Very professional and efficient staff. I would love to take my 25 into the Northern reaches of the Sea of Cortez.
