I have a 26 Venture with twin 90 Tohatsu--after 12 years I need to repower. Does anybody have thoughts on twin 90 or 115 Suzukis? I am interested in cruising speed, top end, and fuel economy. The Tohatsu cruises at 20-22 knots w/ top end at 27 knots.

Another option would be Single 175 or 200 w/kicker.

Can't speak to the power, but I would sure stay with the twins. If they are the same weight, I would go with the 115's. Always nice to have some spare power if you need it.

What is your Wide open RPM? What is the cruise RPM? That top speed seems a little low for the twin 90's. If both the Suzuki 90 and Tohatsu 90 are propped correctly, you should get close to the same speed.

How will the boat handle above 30 knots? 27 knots is about 31 mph. That is what most people find is the upper limits of good handling.

The Venture 26 is rated for 200 hp--would putting 30 more hp be a problem? Probably not if the transom weight was the same. Some say insurance is an issue.

It may well be that a different prop, or trim may give more speed. (often motor height may be an issue, to give slightly less efficient speeds)

We repowered exactly a year ago to a Suzuki DF90A and didn't really get to break it in until this spring. The reason we chose the 90 was due to the weight savings compared to our 2006 Suzuki DF90, 75lbs!

While doing the first 20 hours, I was a little concerned that maybe I should have chosen the DF115A when we were heavily weighted down with tons of shrimp gear, 2 more people and being overpropped. Since going down in pitch and breaking her in, I just love this motor. Plenty of power, smooth, quiet and purrs like a kitten. Its unbelievably quiet at idle. We just did a day trip to Friday Harbor with 6 people last week and the boat just flew across the flat water with no noticeable drop in speed due to more weight. I'm totally satisfied.

Please note that the 90 and 115 are now different blocks with the 115 being 43 lbs heavier at 401 lbs vs. 343 for the 90. In any case, you wouldn't go wrong with either of these Suzukis. Good luck in your search.

Oops the difference between the 115 vs 90 is 58 lbs. Kinda funny that I can't add correctly being that I'm a Financial Controller. Embarrased

(Thanks Bob)
