They already have in much of BC. Off the west coast of Vancouver Island, over 90% of the salmon caught are Columbia River bound fish. There's very little native salmon stock left in BC waters.

Larry, Thanks for keeping this up to date. That is quite a "war" they are pursuing. It is unbelievable that the government can just be "bought" and be so blind. Yet the same thing is going on in our waters with Cooke replenishing the pens even though they will be out of time before the stocked fish grow to market size. Seems they are just expecting to over run the ecological common sense and government here.

This article from the Seattle Times shows the magnitude of the problem with the processing of farmed salmon. The companies raising and processing farm fish are going to kill off wild salmon if this continues.

Larry,

Looks like we are closer to the BC issue in WA State than a lot of folks thought. For those interested, here is a link to "Our Sound Our Salmon"

https://www.oursound-oursalmon.org/#home

If you go to the "Flotilla" page, there are a couple of C-Dorys in some of the pix.

I try not to eat "farmed fish" of any kind but sometimes it's hard not to at some/most restaurants.

Thanks for the links Larry. Sounds like the BC Government authorities are pretty out to lunch, and looking to get out of government. The First Nations folks are to looking for some consistency and support from the Canada government. Hope that works.

Even closer to home than BC, here is news about Cooke salmon farm operations being shut down in Port Angeles. Also in this article is a report of the escaped Atlantic salmon being caught 43 miles up the Skagit River.

What a shame. A foreign company that provides almost no jobs and exploits and degrades our local resources is shut down. Bummer dude! Hope they pull the permit for Cypress Island as well after what happened earlier this summer. I have no sympathy them Thumbs Down
