I am sure this must be in a post somewhere here... what is the best method for unsticking a window? And what is the best lube for screens and windows. Thanks all.

Liquid Roller once you get it unstuck, maybe for getting it unstuck as well. _________________ "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." - Abraham Lincoln |

Use one of the Wagner steam machines ( used for wall paper removal and general cleaning), there is an attachment that has a narrow point with bristles. The steam will soften all the crud build up in the track bunny fuzz. Once you have it sliding, remove the glass ( both the slider and the fixed portion ) and clean the track bunny fuzz thouroly. The steam cleaner will do this nicely, you will be amazed how much dirt has built up in the fuzz.
Sometimes just installing new bunny fuzz is easier. After cleaning, use silicone spray to lube the window track and fuzz. _________________ Cdory 22 Angler

Assuming a side window tap the window forward with the heel of your hand before trying to pull it open.
I use silicone spray to lube the window tracks. |

I have found that one of my windows gets severely stuck if it is closed too far (over closed). If I just slide the port side window as far as it will go in the closed direction it will be very hard to open again (usually involves prying). If I close it just far enough to get the latch to engage, then opening it a again is not a problem. |

Just to re-inforce for those who do not know about silicone sprays: you want the dry lubricant--not a wet or gel lubricant silicone.
Rinsing the window track after each use when washing the boat down will help prevent the binding of the window in the track. _________________ Bob Austin

Oh yes! I remember it well.
If your latches are like the ones on my older C-Dory windows, then closing them too tightly will cause them to stick.
Here is a picture I shared years back showing what was causing the problem with mine. To prevent it, I put a short length of rubber o-ring material in the front vertical channel to stop the window from sliding too far forward if it is slammed shut.
To unstick the window, I had to use a large flat blade screwdriver held between the aluminum frame channel and the aluminum piece that holds the latch on the sliding window. I would put the blade in there and twist it to move the window back a fraction of an inch.
Keeping the felt seal in the window track lubed with the silicone makes it slide easier but it also makes it much easier to jam the window too far forward.
Good luck! _________________ TyBoo Mike

I agree with Ssobol. If you close the windows too hard they would get stuck on my old 25 too. After learning that I got in that habit of just closing them very softly. Lol _________________ <><><> Jason <><><>

Has anyone replaced the window felt? I haven't been able to find a thread here on how to do that. _________________

Funny you should post this. The large window on the starboard side is in need of a replacement. It got "stuck" and then with opening/closing it twisted and pulled out half way. It's on my "one of these days I need to...." list. I can't figure out how to get the damned thing out, though. I guess a call to Canada is in order. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

There is a spacer in the head track that prevents the glass from being lifted out. Once the glass is removed, all the plastic track can be removed, and the bunny fuzz can be replaced. |

I have the window all apart except for the fuzz. How do you get the “fuzz” out & put the new in?? _________________ 1991 C-Dory 21’ Pro-Angler |
