Colby on Midnight Flyer you are certainly welcome to come and we would look forward to seeing you. I think this trip may be closer for you than your recent Rio Vista journey.

I finally looked up Eric's similar trip information on Chack Chack in 2014. They also went in October and had a delightful trip. Eric provides good information for his stops on the Snake and Columbia Rivers. Eric has since sold his C-Dory but I thank him for providing this valuable information.

Dave on Raven Dancer we would look forward to you joining us for the last 150 miles of our journey. Pedro on C-Casa has expressed similar interest in joining us from Portland to Astoria.

I will do detailed trip planning and present a proposed day by day itinerary before we start the trip so you can schedule when to join us as we caravan by.

Thanks Jim. The trip/cruise is on my radar and peaked my interest when you first mentioned it. Wink It will be one of those last minute decisions if I come. We've got some non-boat travel planned for two weeks just before your River trip. But if I come back from that, and not being used to sub on the school buses here, I may just decide to head out. It is 1,637 miles, or 3 good days drive, one way from my home here to the state park you are using to launch. (1 day less than Rio Vista would have been, if I hadn't gone via Phoenix...) But for now, I'll just monitor the chatter here. Mr. Green Colby

Jim, could you post a link to that thread. I haven't been able to find it or get it to come up. Thanks, I'm still following along.

Harvey on SleepyC -

I don't know how to do internal site links, but here is how I found the reference on the similar trip.

Go under Forms
Go to Grand Adventures
Go to Lewiston to Astoria (by using search).

It is right there!

Jim, I decided to sign up for the group, just not positive about if I will in fact be joining the cruise. As it stands now, I'd say I went from a low percentage chance to 50% chance. I've done a lot of traveling this year, and enjoyed every bit of it. I stopped driving school bus full time two years ago and just went to an as needed sub dependent upon my availability for the very reason of wanting to join more of the C-Dory gatherings during the spring and late fall. While I feel obligated to help out driving school bus, which is something I enjoy (just call me crazy), back to my main reason of retiring the bus driving gig into just part time subbing! Anyway, long story short, while I'm not yet committed to towing the boat all the way out west again this year, it's getting more and more persuasive every time I think about it! I'll continue watching the comments here and looking at my own logistics to join you guys. Very likely if I come, I would be solo this time. Colby

Aw what the heck. I'm at 95% probability of going! Jim, go ahead and put me down as most likely. It's only 1680 miles out to Idaho from home, and 2100 back from Astoria! 10 days on the road (counting the two to retrieve the rig) and 10 days on the water. Seems pretty balanced to me... Rolling Eyes If I stick with the plan, I'll leave home on the 14th and arriving the afternoon of the 17th. Hopefully we'll be able to maintain that 10 day schedule, but if not, so be it... as long as I don't have to trailer through snow and ice on the way home. Mr. Green I've had a blast with boat travels this year; why not add some more! Colby

Colby

Good call on your decision. It is likely that there will not be a group expedition C-Dory cruise such as this on the Snake/Columbia Rivers for some time.

As you and I were both widowers and then rebounded, we know how short life is and the need to sieze opportunity now!

Most definitely Jim. Only hassle I'm not looking forward to are the boat inspections along the way. Maybe I can get the first one to "seal" the boat and then the rest will more or less leave me alone! Colby

One bit of advice - be sure you fuel up your tow rigs in the Tri Cities before you head off to Lewiston, it's a long ways through the middle of no where with very limited refueling possibilities, and no cell service.
Call each of the marinas you are planning stops at and be sure they will be open with fuel. Also if you are thinking about eating out be sure the restaraunts will be open.
You guys will love the trip.
Best
Eric

There should be no problem getting gas in Lewiston, everything from Chevron to Quick Gas station.

Cell phone service will be spotty coming down the Snake. Once past the lower Snake locks, there should be service all the way to Astoria.

I am guessing that Jim has already checked with the marinas.

One of the major concerns will be meeting barge traffic on the Snake. AIS will help but not every tug is running that. Line of sight is pretty short around some of the turns.

Regarding AIS, I do have a transmitter, so will be transmitting AIS that should be picked up by any of the tugs. So they should be able to see me (us) as well. Colby
