Recently I got into a conversation about how a lot of people liked the idea of a Bimini but through it would get in the way when fishing.

I never understood this until I looked at other boats. The previous owner of my boat must of added a second set of Bimini mounts near the bulk head. This allowed him to pull two pins and move the whole frame against the bulk head so he had the whole cockpit open for unimpeded fishing.
With the high radar arch there is still room to have pole mounts without the bimini getting in the way. I don't know how this would fit on all boats or boats with the lower radar arch but it may be worth a look if you are thinking about it.

In case this is hard to visualize, I added a picture to my photo album if you want to see how it fits. I took the canvas off for the picture so you could get a better view of how it all fits if interested in making this modification.

Yeah Mike, that's the way our bimini was installed. The riggers simply added a quick release mount on the gunnels near the bulkhead so that we can store the camperback bars against the bulkhead. After I installed the radar arch 2 years later, it fit under the arch perfectly as if it were designed that way. Pretty cool!

My first C Dory 22 had the bimini bottom bow attachment on a track inside the gunnel. Thus the bottom of the bows could be slid forward, and allow the bimini and frame to lie art, flush with the side decks, and the majority of the canvas, over the front of the splash well.

Every C-dory we have had, has featured the two position bimini mount. Above is the TC 255 version.

and with the bimini up. This photo also features a dingy rack that I built and used for a couple of cruises. Not a great idea in hindsight.

Boy...I like the idea of a slider. It is kind of a pain to move it by myself. It is just a little big or maybe I am just a little too small to move it on my Tomcat

I am looking for a pair of vimimi mounts like those pictured in C-Dancers post. i would like to be able to move my frame when I am transporting my kayaks on top of my boats. If you can help me out to source these mounts I would appreciate it.

Peter and Judy, I googled "bimini quick release mount" and lots of choices came up, including Amazon, EBay and Overtons. It's really nice to be able to tuck the bimini bars under the radar arch up and out of the way. It just so happened to fit perfectly, total blind luck not planned.

Good luck in your search.

Peter
