What did I do wrong? It runs for a bit and then the "no oil" alarm kicks on and limits idle speed and then shuts it off.
I sort of assume that oil isn't passing through the new filter, somehow. Because why? Because the new filter is the only component that's different from earlier today, when it ran fine.
Anybody else have this happen? What was it?
Thanks,

Did you put enough oil in the engine? I know, silly question, but I have been known to do silly things at times, just ask The Admiral. _________________ Patrick and Kim Walker

"Enough oil"?!? Sheesh! What kinda wise-acre crack is that?
OK, It specifies 5 qt. I've got a note in my manual where I've handwritten "4.5 quarts". And then, below that, "No, 5 quarts".
This time, I had bought 4 quarts, not remembering how many. But that's OK, I had a partial quart in the locker. So it had about 4.75 quarts. Seriously. "four and three quarters" quarts. I figured I would top it off before the Friday Harbor run. Meanwhile, it should be JUST FINE. Except it doesn't want to run for any length of time.
SO...I went out and bought another quart, and now it has about 5.25 quarts, just to test Patrick's RIDICULOUS theory.
Guess what? It's running great, and not just at idle. It ran at 1600 RPMs for several minutes while I watched, and onward as I've been typing this.
Um...THANKS, Patrick. Good idea. "Enough oil". Weird! |

Well, I just read the whole thing to my wife, The Admiral and I are busting up! I guess the Johnson/Suzuki motor is mighty particular when it comes to oil!
Thanks for the good laugh, we sure needed it! |
