I use the plastic bait holders; the taller ones. I think they are ~9" or so. Like this: https://johnssportinggoods.com/product/crabbing-shrimping/bait-barrel/ The commercial pots I use don't have a center bait tunnel, just two cords that + in the center of the pot. So I have to have a "container" of some kind. I did drill small holes top and bottom and re-enforce the lid/bottom with alum rivets. They are just "glued" from the manufacturer and I've had them come apart in the trap. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

I know what you are getting at. I worried about that. The #7 rebar nearly fills the PCV pipe, but there is air in there. I wanted to keep the water out because, altho I'm not sure I believe it, many have told me that shrimp don't like the "taste" of rusting steel and/or electrical currents. I figured schedule 40 pipe is very strong and would flex a bit. So far no signs of cracks or water intrusion down to about 300 feet. |
