We decided to go look at a lot of boats! Any C-Brats going to the show? Or, can anyone give us any tips about Sarasota? That is one of the few areas of the Florida coast which I've never yet visited.
We've also never been to a boat show before, it sounds fun. We picked this one due to my wife's vacation schedule and the availability of cheap air fare.

We like Sarasota. Nice beaches and at Venice. Dick Vitale the wacky sports guy hangs out the Broken Egg, now closed so he moved next door to the First Watch. AP Bell in Cortez is good for seafood. Bearded Clam and Anna Marie on 41 north of airport are popular Ringling Bro Museum is there, Mote Aquarium and Selby Botancial Gardens. Drive to Long Boat Key to Anna Marie. I think Siesta Key area has a lot of super expensive homes and private estates. Always wanted to take a off shore or in shore charter depending on season in that area If visiting in July and August, it can hot awful hot and lots of afternoon showers. Plan your day - early am activities, relax or nap or shop at noon to 4 then back out. Sun stroke is common. Lots of golf courses. Lot of sailing from Lightnings to the big boys. A zillion activities in Tampa.

Oh we are part timers in Pt Charlotte 100 miles of Tampa and very close to Ft Meyers.

Thanks Marc, we will see you there. Though I'm afraid to let Sherry get back on that Tomcat, she likes it too much!

Well first boat show under our belt and my mind is still reeling. Excess is the order of the day! My favorite was the monster center console with FIVE 400hp Verados hanging off the transom. Salesman said it would hit 90. Right.

And then the Wefing's display, with Marc with his Tomcat and Rossborough were an island of sanity.
I have to say that both of those boats showed solid value compared to so much there that was based on glitz. I didn't see glitz, I saw expensive problems everywhere that I looked. And after looking at hundred of very fancy "fishing boats" I thought that the basic little Panga made a whole lot of sense. But C-Dory sure has their niche as there was nothing on display showing that kind of no-nonsense value and purpose. Maybe most don't want that? Or else there is little money in it.

You know why they put 4 400s on the giant center console ?
Cause they couldn't fit 5!

The folks that are attracted to our stuff are generally not interested in anything else in the show [cept may be the 10lbs of ***t in a 5Lb bag] boats from a certain former Bayliner manufacturer .
The knowledgeable ones like the products we bring.

Or they cannot afford to put the 3 of the Seven's9 (Triple 557s with joystick steering cost $270,000 for 1,671 hp) "marinized 6.2L supercharged small-block V8, managed by GM’s powerful MEFI 6 engine controller. Then put out 557 horsepower at the prop shaft:. "

No one (other than Law Enforcement, pro fishermen, emergencies etc) ever needs to go over 30MPH on the water IMHO.
It's not I-10, where you can see debris a mile ahead and avoid it with basic driving manuvers.
If there's a deadhead log just under the water and invisible and I hit it at 30MPH, with any luck the outboard hydraulics kick up and my damage is limited to two $18,000 motors.
If you hit it at 90MPH, say your prayers.
I get 1.9-2.1 MPG combined at 4000RPM and 24 MPH burning 13 GPH, but (gasp) 31 GPH at only 36 MPH WOT (cheap aluminum SOLAS 17 pitch 4-blade props, but I like 'em).
Your mileage may differ, but not by much on the same boat.
Happy Boating!
John
