Hi all,
I have 2003 twin Yamaha 40's that I"m now noticing rust on the power trim assembly specifically what is reffered to as the Stator Assembly. part number 3 in the diagram below:
http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Outboard/2003/F40TLRB/POWER%20TRIM%20TILT%20ASSY/parts.html
The rust is located mostly on the bottom port side where it bolts in and is in the same place on both motors. I currently do not have any issues with the power trim but wonder if there is any preventative maintenance that can be done before I do. That stator assembly looks to go for a whopping $450 and from what I see the rust is all superficial at this point (only on housing). Perhaps wheel brush rust off to get a closer look at damage and paint back over?
I'm curious if anybody with these motors has had a similar issue.
Thanks for any input. I will post pics later today. |

That sounds correct to remove paint, inspect, prime and re paint
sounds like surface rust _________________ Brent Barrett |
