Has Anyone install a small arch with rocket Launchers on a 22 classic. I really can't find a good place to store rods and or have them in use for trolling. I don't want to cut holes in the back reason or motor well. I have two role holders today install on each of the two side grab rails, but I would really like to have an addition 4 holder for trolling and under way storage. I'm thinking about a small arch bolted to the back cockpit roof that straddles the raised part for the cabin.

Has anyone done this install, just for rod holder and not for radar, GPS, nav lights etc,,

Thanks Jim

Our boat came with a set of rocket launchers mounted on the back edge of the cabin top as you've described. I assume one of the former owners installed it. We do have a bimini which squeezes just under the rocker launchers. We don't actually fish so they are no use to us, but my wife thinks they make us look like we're serious. Laughing

Here's one version of a "rocket launcher" on a CD-22 classic. Not an arch but perhaps easier to do.

Here's an earlier thread on the topic.

You might also look at these handrail mounted rod holders like I have on the Tomcat.
. If your classic has the wooden handrails, they won't be for you but with the 3/4" stainless handrails they work quite well. They're from CE Smith. They aren't cheap (~$100/ea) but they are quite sturdy and you don't have to drill holes to install. I previously bought some cheaper rail mount rod holders from West Marine that fell apart in a few weeks of heavy use. I've since been willing to put more $'s in quality ones (one rod and reel overboard will cover the difference in cost and then some).

Here's one on a 22' Angler, that I built from aluminum. Total cost was about $75.00

Thanks for the ideas guys. I actually have the grab rail rod holder on the side if my 22. My girlfriend does not want them on the top rails as she thinks it may interfere with moving alongside the bow of the boat.. The other two options look close. I may go with the direct mount or still poke a going for one that looks like a had rail but where you can fasten them and tilt them to where you want them. I've seen that option for Bimini tops, just have to see if they have that option for out type of boat. The good news is I have 6 months or so to look around. Thanks again.

OK, OK. Everyone has their own idea about rod holders. However the factory has a option of a radar arch for both the 22' angler and cruiser. And I remember that we were asked whether we wanted hod holders welded to the arch when we ordered Journey On.

So whey don't you contact the factory, ask who makes their radar arches and order one with the desired number of rod holders?

Good idea never thought about the factory.

I'll give them a call when I get back home.

Thanks

This was my solution on the 22 to store my rods in a place out of the way but still easily accessible. The rod holder is an off the shelf item that offers a multitude of adjustment angles. I chose to mount the holder inboard, this moved the rods further away from the sides offering less obstruction when walking forward and at the same time was a great handhold.
The lip offered a good mounting location that required no drilling holes into the cabin.
