Hello and Welcome to the group. There are many C-Dorys on and around Whidbey plus gatherings in the region. If you don't have a boat yet, read it all here, use the google search box at top left for specific topics, and ask any questions you can't find answers to!

Absolutely, my wife Christine my daughter Abigail and I live in a small boating community on the south end of Whidbey Island called Sandy Hook.
As for " the greatest small boats in the world" I think we have a few of them. We have a MacGregor 26M with a Suzuki DF70 that has taken us as far as Toba wilderness and been our home for over a month at a time . We have a Arima 17ft Sea Ranger with a Merc. 90 that we use to fish and crab off of possession bar.
Also a 22ft C-Dory with a Honda 75hp and Yamaha 8hp. The Dory is a bank canvas for us . I am hoping to gain valuable insights from current and past owners as to " how to set the boat up". We would like to us the CD to fish the west side of Vancouver Island . Ryan |

Jim we really enjoy Florida, we hope to trailer the MacGregor to Florida for some East coast cruising and great loop legs. The McGregor has been truly a wonderful do all boat for us. We have installed solar charging system Refrigeration and a C-Head composting toilet that was made by Sandy Graves from your neck of the woods. If you find youryourselfour area and have any interest in taking a ride or sail on a MacGregor give me a shout. |

Now that you have a C Dory 22, it is versatile enough that other boats may not be necessary, Many of us are ex or current sailors, and do understand the importance of sailing in our lives.
I have done only about half of the "great Loop". The entire Atlantic Coast ICW was in a 62' ketch. Even on the Gulf Coast ICW--only a few miles by water from our home-- we most often see sailboats powering. This has to do with wind direction, velocity and shifts. We sold our Cal 46 after sailing to Florida--granted the M 26's shoal draft makes it better for "sailing" along some areas. But the cabin of the C Dory gives one shelter from the harsh sun, and from the often rain squalls: truly a 4 season boat. Some M 26's have joined our Lake Powell C Dory cruises.
Thanks for the information--the C Dory is an excellent fishing boat. |

Ryan and Christine -
We sailed the Loop on our 20' Flicka and then later cruised it on our 22' C-Dory. Also the Gulf ICW FL to Mex, all the Great Lakes and the eastern and Gulf rivers. We strongly support your desire to head east. Washington is glorious cruising, but that's home. A vacation to the east will be very different and enjoyable. So much fine water, great scenery, and history to witness from the water back there. We suggest anchoring out most nights -- wildlife is wonderful and the springtime birds a morning chorus.
Welcome to the Brats -- many good ideas shared here. And let us all know about your cruising. El and Bill _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Welcome to the forum and ownership!
You have a great combo of boats. I sold an 17 Arima Sea Chaser to upgrade to the 22. That was 7 years ago and now we have a 25 Cruiser. Still love the Arimas. (If thinking of selling, contact me).
Look forward to meeting you, maybe Bellingham gathering? _________________ Patrick and Kim Walker
