I just got off of the phone with Joyce. She asked me to let the C-Brat's know that Bruce passed last night after loosing the battle with cancer.
She wanted to express to all how much the C-Dory community meant to her and Bruce and the fond memories she and Bruce had of good time at the gatherings and travels with fellow C-Brats.
"Carpy" will stay in the family and go to Olympia, Washington with Bruce's son.
She would welcome hearing from close C-Dory friends. I will not post her contact info on a public forum, Contact me by PM if you want her contact info.

What a loss. I met "The Carpys" at Powell a couple of years ago, and very much enjoyed their company. Down to earth folks, full of life and spirit. (Joyce, I hope you still feel welcome here - as you are!)
And of course long before meeting, I'd been drooling over the mods in Carpy's album (lots of great ideas that even those of us without Bruce's woodworking talent could use as inspiration).
Sorry if I'm adding to any of your "to do" lists by posting this, but here is a link to some of Carpy's mods. Great ideas, so nicely executed.
http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_albumName=Carpy&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php
Just a few examples from the album:
Defiance House, Lake Powell, Fall 2012. Carpy (Bruce) on the right Hunky Dory (Jay) on the left (sorry I caught you mid-word).

Tex, Thank you for passing on the information about Carpy Bruce, and please pass my condolences to his wife and family. Though I never met them I enjoyed his posts and looking at his album and mods. Thanks, Sunbeam for posting those pix, and the link.
Glad to hear that Carpy will be coming north, and sure hope to get to see it here on the water. What a fine family tradition to carry on.
Harvey

I had the honor of meeting Bruce once, and will never forget it. This was back when he was in the market for a boat and was considering a C-Dory. Prior to coming out to the Seattle area to visit his son he got on this site asking if anyone would take him out for a ride. Bruce, his son, forgive me I cannot remeber his name, Kathy and I spent a nice day out on Lake Washington. I got the boat away from the dock and handed the helm over to Bruce and the smile did not come off of his face till the boat was back on the trailer 4 hours later. The rest is C-Dory history. Calm waters, no wind Bruce _________________ Chuck

If any of you guys see "Carpy" in the pacific NW, Bruce's son is Kyle.
Bruce had been around boats a long time before coming into the C-Dory fold.
He was a master carpenter and had restored classic wooden runabouts in the past.
You can see his skills in the above photos. "Carpy" had the nicest interior work of any C-Dory that I have ever seen.
He and Joyce were a perfect fit for each other and they both fit right into the C-Brat traveling and exploring lifestyle like peas in a pod.
Those of us whose life he touched are going to miss him.

Tex, thanks for letting us know this sad news about Bruce. He will certainly be missed by all of us who have enjoyed his company & had hoped to share more time with him & Joyce at future Gatherings. The photo of Bruce & I, that Sunbeam posted sure brought back fond memories of time shared with Bruce & Joyce at Lake Powell in 2012.

Sorry to hear about Bruce. I don't think I met him, but I know I have read some of his postings. I lost my grandma and first wife to cancer (along with some friends). It's a terrible disease, so I also have a lot of sympathy for what Joyce was going thru. Prayers and condolences for their entire family. Colby |

Joyce,
It is with heavy hearts that we learned of Bruce passing away.
On behalf of all the Mississippi River C-Brats we will greatly miss Bruce but know we are all better for knowing him.
A quick story that is so Bruce. Four C-Dories were traveling the Cajun Loop and we had arrived in Houma La. mid-day. We met a local fisherman that agreed to take us to a drive thru bar to pick up some drinks we had ordered. En route, Bruce expressed a desire to be shown all the nice restaurants in town and the gentleman obliged by giving Bruce the grand tour. The reason for the restraint tour was that Bruce wanted to take Joyce to a special place that she would enjoy on her birthday. How thoughtful.
I will freely admit to stealing C-Dory modifications from Bruce but in return he stole our hearts and respect.
To Joyce and all of the family members and friends may God Bless you and keep you strong.

Joyce-
We are so sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. When we first met at the 2012 Mississippi CBGT we didn't have a boat at the time and both you and Bruce welcomed us aboard Carpy and shared his favorite beers and C-Dory stories for most of an afternoon. Our lives are richer because of Bruce's advice to "seize the day" and become C-Brats too. We think he would be happy to know we are cruising the St. John's River this month. We will be thinking of you both.
Take care until we meet again.

Our condolences and thoughts to the family. We have Carpy's tropical December 2015 calendar photo on the mind and hope his son will keep her floating so happy.

Well, that's sad news! I remember him well on the 2012 Lake Powell get together.
