We ran across a pod, herd, group or what ever of pacific white side dolphins. They even can over to ride our stern wake. In 15 years of boating in the San Juans I have never seen them before. We get a lot of the small harbor Porpoises around here but never seen these guys before. One jumped out of the water higher then my 27. |
Hey Tom and Susan. It was great seeing you this past weekend. I also ran across dolphins, not porpoises in the south sound last month. I asked people from the Cascadia Research Organization to help me identify them because I didn't think they were porpoises or Pacific White Side Dolphins. Since I can't bring up your video for some reason, I was wondering if the dolphins you saw looked like the ones I saw. They identified them as Long-beaked Common Dolphins.
I read that these types of dolphins are showing up more and more in these waters than ever before.

Thats cool Peter. I dont think that is what we saw. not white and bright enough. We looked thru the book on porpoises and pacific white sides was it. There is one in the Vancouver Aquarium that we saw this spring. They are more common in the north Vancouver island area then the San juans. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Hey pat and Patty, thanks so much for all your hospitality again. We really enjoyed ourselves, so good to see everyone again. We cruised up to sucia with echo and were at Ganges together yesterday. At Newcastle island now and ran into two bears and Kerri on. Oh by the way Brock how do you like my bucket! |

We really enjoyed putting this one together, glad everyone enjoyed themselves! We sat out the wind on Sunday tied up to P Dock, and took off Monday for Snoring Bay at Sucia to meet Lyle and Shelly of the former CD25 Bess-C., which has morphed into the 46' Westcoast Bessie! A couple of lunches, two movie nights on Bessie, some adult beverages, and our new favorite anchorage, Snoring Bay! Easy run home today and easy retrieval. Daydream is in the driveway, cooler and freezer are unloaded, motor is flushed, and the rest of the cleaning will await a day or two more! _________________

Thanks again Pat and Patty for your weekend spent herding Brats. You guys once again put on a terrific Gathering. Had a wonderful time seeing everybody and spending time w/ many of you in spite of Sunday's BIG windstorm.
Upon leaving Bellingham Monday morning cruised up to Sucia and miraculously caught dock space in Fossil Bay along w/ Jamie and Denise on Gumption. Then proceeded up to Saltspring's Ganges marina w/ Gumption after going thru customs at Bedwell.
Finally got home this past Saturday.... vacation over and back at work today which is a bummer but far better then not having a job.
Had a bit of excitement in route from Sucia to Ganges with what turned out to be a faulty propane sensor causing the Xintex propane alarm to go off constantly for numerous hours until the fuse was yanked in Ganges. Thanks again to Gumption for looking out for us and making sure we were OK in the process.
Take care all and stay safe out there.
Take care,
Dan, Tanya, and Hannah (the dog) on Echo |

Just slithered out of my Witness Protection circumscription here for a minute to register my appreciation for everyone's participation at the now weeks-old Bellingham Brat bash.
Party planners Pat and Patti served up another weekend of great big fun. Thank you for all you do for us, P&P; Your Friday pizza party, Sunday breakfast, comprehensive communication with us and Port management, and the spirit you bring to the group. And your little dog, Toto, too.
Good to see Tyboo and his fiance, who arrived in Mike's dazzling, shapely, black muscle car. It'd been about five years since I'd seen you, Tyboo, and I was delighted you made it. And Robbi! Holy cow, it was like C-Brat longtimer's weekend. Course, I've seen Robbi twice since, at Poulsbo Saturday and Sunday. She cruised up in her handsome 19'.
Dan and Tanya, Fred and Robin, Tom and Susan, great to see all ya'all. Joe and Ruth, if you're out there, be there next time because you've got more than a few fans. Greg and Cindie, MikeR showed us what you and the others who left Sunday morning were up against. It didn't look fun but your boat handled it very well. And tell Aven she can be my game show hostess any time she likes.
Also really nice to see Caryn and Peter, John and Amy, Patrick and Kim and Kylee Lynn. You folks also are a wonderful addition to a pretty darn fine group of Brats. After this gig I saw Lyle and Shelly at Stuart Island on the 26th. They buzzed over to me in their inflatable as I was leaving. Very good to see them. And Patrick on the ferry last week. And MikeR and I laughed as we both independently stopped at Twin Bridges, then Master Marine on Sat. the 27th. Point is, on water or land, one never knows when we'll run into a C-Brat. Thanks again, everyone! Yikes, here come those guys in black coats and sunglasses...

Yes, and it's got my brain feeling like a big ol' hairball. Aside from that, though, I just wanted to see if the old boy was paying attention. |
