Thanks to all who attended the Friday Harbor CBGT this year. We've had a fabulous weekend and loved seeing all our C-Brat friends. Missed all of you that couldn't make it and hope to see you soon. Safe travels everyone.

Most of the boats are still here and many are staying until midday.

Ditto what Roger said! Fun gathering, lots of sharing of stories on the dock and a wonderful potluck, even if the weather deteriorated a little towards the end of the evening! CBGTs are just such an added bonus of owning this great little boat!

We managed to squeeze in a quick visit. Nice to see many familiar faces. Border services is a bit more complicated than it used to be! It was a nice day trip from Bedwell harbour!

Greg, Cindie, Aven: Thanks for leaving our bucket on the dock. We found it! Smile

Great weekend. We went back to Deception Pass via Thatcher Pass, with a lunch stop at James Island...a very peaceful hour on the warm stone beach.

All home safe now. I even backed the trailer into the Ballard ship canal to rinse it off and run freshwater through the engine...that always makes me feel better. It's not that late, but we're tired...we'll unpack tomorrow.

Greg, Cindie and Aven,

What a great time we had, thanks so much for all your work!

This is the World's Largest C-Brat Get Together! Wow, that's saying a lot!

Wonderful weekend seeing everyone, we took out a couple interested in 25 C Dory, John and Misty from Gig Harbor and it turned into a whale watch trip from Yellow Island to Parks Bay! What fun!

Looking forward to next year already!

It was a great weekend and like others, I must thank Greg, Cindie and Aven for an OUTSTANDING job of organizing the largest C-Brat gathering. I did a walk down H-Dock on Sat. AM and shot a video of the boats present there. Towards the end, I panned over to the G-dock and you can see more brats over there. I posted it to the C-Dory facebook page - you can view it here .

Highlights of the weekend for Joyce and me -

Seeing Ruth and Joe - after 55 years of marriage, they are still in love and such a wonderful couple. You can always count on Joe for firm handshake and a hug and you can always count on Ruthie for cake, a hug and impromptu photos. Since Susan Elliott wasn't present, Joe couldn't hug his "favorite scientist" and instead of Susan, I was the beneficiary of his hugs. Susan - I've saved the hugs up for you and will pass them on next time I see you.

Seeing all the families and their children. In a time when many parents are over protective of their kids, it was great to see so many kids paddling and rowing around. Allowing a child an opportunity to take some (calculated and minimized) risks helps to build self confidence and self esteem.

Seeing all the other C-Brats - new friends and old friends - especially Peter and Caryn, Pat and Patty, Greg and Cindie, the ever gentle Brock and too many others to name.

The Sat. AM soap box derby. Joyce and I wandered up the hill to watch the local kids and families "compete" in the soap box derby. There were cars of all shapes and sizes -

and some good races

I put more images in the gathering's photo album. It was a fun event. One family had one vehicle but with three kids the dad designed it to have three different boxes that could be interchanged so each kid was able to display their own personality. A lot of creativity was on display also - one racer was a "stretched" wheel chair, one was two bicycles with some wood cross braces clamped on to create a platform for the box, others were more elaborate creations. The county sheriff was present and was clocking the racers who reached blazing speeds of up to 15mph. When the kids passed his car, he'd activate the siren to increase the overall excitement. A local guy was on a mike/loud speaker providing "color commentary" that was actually pretty colorful. Overall - it was a good time. If the CBGT falls on the same weekend as the soap box derby next year, maybe we can provide an off-island entrant. Perhaps a vehicle shaped like a C-Dory. Then more of the Brats would have a good excuse to go watch what was a truly fine family event.

The potluck and the chowder in particular - Oh My God - that was some darn good chowder. The food from everyone else was great also, but clearly I've been missing out on chowder by not attending hardly any recent CBGT's. The chowder alone made it worth the trip.

I'm sure that there are many wonderful people and things that I forgot to mention. It was a great weekend. Thanks again for organizing, Greg, Cindie and Aven. Here's a picture of their boat looking like it needs a piece of cheese.

We are finally back home in Birch Bay this morning! We spent Sunday and Monday nights on the dock at Reid Harbor on Stuart Island with Traveler, saw Terry and Ann and John and Susan (the Rosboro folks from Ohio) at Reid, and Tuesday night in Ewing Cover on Sucia, all with Toni and Russ on Traveler! All in all, out 10 days, a very relaxing time with a great CBGT included in the middle!

Note on Ewing Cove, it really should be called Ewing Pass, the tidal flow runs through there like a river! You need to be on a mooring buoy and NOT rafted like we were! It is a pretty spot but you need to be ready for some serious current!
