|
|
I just installed a Navman 3100 fuel flow meter and am trying to interface it with my Garmin 178c chartplotter. Problem is that even though both units are powered up and working independently, they won't seem to talk to each other. I found the menus in each unit to turn on NMEA, but still no dice. Without the link I can't get the "range" feature to work. And I don't want to be trying to do the math while I'm supposed to be driving the boat. Any suggestions? _________________ -Rod

Rod-
At the risk of asking the obvious, you do have the correct connecting cable installed, don't you? I'd check the continuity of all the wires in the cable after the required wiggling tests. Is there a way you can check he signal coming out of the fuel flow meter? Often the factory tech reps can be of great help here with the least time lost to scratching one's head! Rod, I had the same problem with my NAVMAN. The problem is the installation instuctions by NAVMAN. They have the polarity wrong on the NEMA wiring. If you reverse the wires hopfully it will work.

Same problem with mine and a Lowrance LCD20x. The factory wants me to send it back.
Fred, do you mean by polarity that transmit and receive are reversed? I'll try it this evening.
Thanks for the tip. _________________ Tom

That fixed the problem. The NMEA receive on the Navman 3100 is the yellow wire. It is labelled as transmit in the installation manual. |

Just got back from Big Lake after switching the Navman wires. Everything's just fine now.
Thanks Fred. That's why I ask these kinds of questions here. Somebody usually has an answer. |
