Harborview Marina at Gig Harbor is ablaze. Evidently, there was an explosion aboard one boat early this morning. Burning debris thrown into the air caused fire to spread. Scores of boats are totally destroyed. Many, loaded with fuel are sinking into the water. _________________ Bill & Evelyn Macdonald

I am sorry to hear that. Gig Harbor is one of my favorite places in Middle Sound. A truly beautiful place, at any time of year. Hope your boat is safe. |

I wonder if David and Joni from Misbehavin' were affected...they sold their 22 CD and bought a 32' Bayliner, and as I recall, lived in Gig Harbor, so there was a fair chance their boat was there...

It's really so sad. And such a waste.

We are quite sure Misbehavin's replacement Bayliner was not docked at Harborview Marina so David and Joni would have suffered no direct loss from this tragic event. As an aside, ownership of Harborview Marina was condominium with boat owners each having title to a berth. Presumeably, association dues would include insurance of the community assets. Boat and personal property insurance is another matter. The covered marina had no sprinkler system. Sunken boats are hidden beneath the marina's destroyed tin roof. Debris in the harbor is pretty well contained. Other marinas and local businesses are back in operation. Some pictures of the devasted marina are in the eieioh Braveheart album. |
