Spam-- seems to fill the pots just fine. I like it because i can keep the cans on the boat for a long time with no mess and throw a pot out whenever I want without having to get bait.

Kevin, I'm from Hawai'i. We don't "waste" SPAM as bait. Wink Laughing

And I thought Spam had no use as a food source. Better the crabs eat it then me Laughing Does it make the crabs taste bad or die early??

i use my spent fish carcasses 90% of the time with consistent, good results. mostly salmon with some ling/halibut/rockfish/sole mixed in. recently i've portioned them into gallon ziplock bags, poured shrimp/crab oil or attractant in there, let sit and marinate overnight, then toss in the freezer. sometimes i'll toss a can of cat food in pot too.

when fish carcasses run out, chicken or turkey legs.

We used to do pretty well with canned cat food years ago on the Oregon bays.

I actually like spam. Truth is I was heading out crabbing and left the bait on the counter so I hit a minimart and got whatever I thought would woork. I put a can of chili in one pot (no crab) and a can of span in the other and got a pot crammed full. Since then its been spam for me!

What about scent? I usually like to use procure scent, does anyone have any experience with pautzke crab and shrimp oil.? There is a video about it in use with Tom Nelson but he is a pautzke pro staffer so I was wanting some info from some of you guys.
Thanks

Just a follow-up on the little bait boxes with fishing line snares on them. They are illegal in B.C., even though some sporting goods shops sell them. I'll have to look to something else for my minimalist crabbing technique when in B.C.

The only thing I've found that crab don't like is a big piece of beef fat. My primary bait is, everything on a tuna except the fins. Second is rockfish carcasses. Shoot, if those crab get the chance they will eat you. They even eat each other if there's nothing else. What kind of bait is the least of my considerations.
