For anyone that is interested fishing was excellent for big perch beer bottle girth.Emerald shiners worked well. Also off shades beach everyone was catching walleye. Discovered that fact when leaving, bumped into a friend that limited out on nice size ones, and heard from others with same luck. Only a 5 mile trip would have gone if I had known sooner.Erie days was ending and saw best fireworks at bayfront area. Tanya Tucker played live on State street. Quite a few Canadians were docked where we were ,Toronto ,Canada I believe is only about 20 miles by water. Enjoyed anchoring off sandy beaches and swimming. Cant beat this boat for trailering and sea worthiness ,get a lot of compliments from other boaters with big boats and others walking by. Homeland security was out in force with boats with 4 engines also coast guard and fish conservation officers. They keep an eye out for drug smuggling is what they said. If anyone wants to go there Lampe Marina or Wolverine marina are 2 good places locked gated marinas with private rest rooms and showers. |

I assume this is a typo, as it would be closer to 200 miles. Guys from our marina(Port Dover) go over to Erie and it is a good 45 miles. I logged 53 miles from Port Dover to Port Colborne and it is another 90 miles(approx.) from Port Colborne to Toronto. That would be close to 190 miles altogether. It would be less plotting a straight line from Erie to Port Colborne and another from the Welland Canal exit to Toronto. In a small craft though it is better to keep closer to shore on the Great Lakes - not only for weather concerns but to keep away from the shipping lanes.
Sounds like you had a great time there. I have always wanted to make the trip over to Erie. Love fishing walleye as well.

Larry, after thinking some more, maybe they just meant that Canada was only 20 miles away. The tip of Long Point is about 20 miles from Erie. There is a small dock there and an anchorage on the east side of the spit(Gravely Bay). Some boaters wait there before making the open water crossing to Erie. About another 26 miles from the tip into Turkey Point or Port Dover. Just didn't want you cruising over expecting to find Toronto.

Hi Robert ,talked to guy next to us believe he said Canada was 20 miles was surprised never looked at a map. He mentioned Port Clinton, Hull Dover ect . He lived 3.5 hrs by boat across lake in Ohio up some river. He also mentioned a 168 like a passport when going to Canada by water. Inquired what it was ,he said you get background check if you pass you can call by phone it cuts down on wait time. Still not sure what he is referring to. We are trying to get a season slip in Erie for next season. Fireworks ending Erie Days were great ,best ever saw. Boating, fishing ,swimming all good.Tanya Tucker preformed ,she was still good. Just got e-mail from couple still there catching walleyes he got hook deep in finger ,still fished another hour since they were catching fish, then went for medical help. Anyone interested in fishing next season if we are there will help with any info they need. Will target walleyes next year and also fish for the big perch |
