|
|
Had some cold chills run through me when my outboard motors started smoking on first startup after several days of sitting. Went to Honda forums and found this response to my search:
"you are lowering your motors down to low after use and oil is running down into cylinders and getting past the rings. Leave motors up a bit so oil cannot drain down past rings .. at least leave them level................. not tilted back .................problem will go away"
I keep my Tomcat on a lift and for some unknown reason I had started putting my motors all the way down before entering the marina. I followed his/her instructions and sure enough....smoking problem gone.
How did I survive without forums, blogs, youtube, and search engines? _________________ John & Vicki Clark

Hi John!
Private Msg here:
Liked your pic of the transom backrest!
The only TC255 owners who have ever posted actual certified scale wgts for their rigs are me (first) and you and 1 other.
My Grand Totals on 3 Heavy Cruise Mode trips to Key West have been #18,050, #17,840, and #17,800 CAT Certified Scales, all at 1/4-1/2 full gas.
Un-hitched boat wgts all #11,000-#12,000.
Your pic is #13,000+ Grand Total Rig Wgt...what gives?
Over 250 Brats have looked at it, I hope it's right.
I just can't help but think you got a wgt on the 'trailer' on 1 scale while it was hitched up to your truck (add up to #1,200 hitch wgt).
I can't explain the remaining significant difference...can you?.
I'd be interested in your opinions. (I didn't look up the difference in 1500/2500 truck wts).
Hope to see you and Vicki at the Miss Gathering in Sept!
Happy Boating!

I spent many years wondering about that. This phenomenon was further mystifying in that only one of the twins did it. It must have sat a little lower. I always ran my motors full down around the docks too. I figured it gave me better control. Oh well, it kept me checking the oil regularly. _________________ Gary & Gerrie former Minnie Swann owners

That's exactly what I did. The boat and trailer are parked on a separate scale and together weighed 9300 lbs. Add 10% for tongue weight and the tow configuration is over 10K. My plan was to disconnect the truck but two semi's pulled up for the same scale.
Do you by chance know your float-on trailer weights? axle and tongue? |

Float-On model 1431-txcbb, Ser # 1115163, GVWR 13,500, TRL WT 2,000, NET CAP 11,500, GAWR FRONT 6750, REAR 6750.
My tongue wgt runs 900-1200# (hitch rating 1200#) depending on what I stash in the boat vs the pickup bed. I did replace the std winch with HD model with lower gears for those summer 96 degree days with 98% humidity.
With EOH brakes controlled by DIRECLINK (has comm with truck engine ECM via OBD port) easily my best behaved rig ever.
I was trying to send a PM to you, not hijack a thread on a different subject...messed that up.
My engines don't smoke when down, but the stdbd one will sometimes drink a bit too much, esp on holidays. I think it may be the 'ducer/disturbed water issue.
Happy Boating!

OMG- Getting old is not for sissies
I just checked my trailer data plate and didn't realize it included the empty weight of 2000. It is also the identical model to yours and with EOH.
Bottom line- When the four disc brakes kick-in on my boat trailer it really feels like I can stop faster than when my truck is empty.
