Is screw type anchoring practical for Powell

Having never been there I don't know whether the beaches would willingly accept these.

Like all answers, it depends. If you find a place where you can let the screw dig in, it can be OK. Many places however do not have much sand/gravel/soil covering a layer of sandstone. In a good blow, and there are some dusie's there, they could pull loose.

I prefer a Fortress type anchor (x2 at least) that is up the beach and buried in the sand to a screw in type tie off. I also carry a couple of lengths of chain and carabiners to loop around roots, trees, rocks, etc. I think we have three anchor rodes on the boat, all with chain.

That's a good question. As mentioned, I've used the "dog tie out" corkscrew type quite a bit and no problems (unless it's just rock or something). But not sure how those larger "flukes" would do. Be interesting to see if anyone knows, because they look a lot sturdier than the dog corkscrews.

I think they would work super...until they hit a rock.... and what are the odds of that ??? the place is mostly rock...

I mainly just drag out the anchor and hook it between a couple of rocks... lots of em to choose from.

Thanks for the responses. I thought the substrate might be too tough for it. I do have a Fortress as well as other Danforth style anchors to use on shore.
