Not a lot of time but still enough to enjoy it. First installed a dock box where boat slip is. Your not allowed to have anything on deck boards on dock. This guy is making brackets, they look like a ladder jack. End hooks on beam between planks, then this extends out over water,so your dock box extends over water. He is selling a lot of these everyone that see them ends up buying a set.Purchased a Rubbermaid 54 inch box at walmart for under $90 dollars, just happened to be on sale. Watched a fireworks display in Ithaca, enjoyed several restaurants over the 2 days. Korean food and place called boat yard good food. Took boat out and anchored to clean hull ,saw a coyote wasn't at all afraid of us as he came down railroad tracks and curled up and took a nap within our view.Water got real choppy and white caps ,so went to a cove set anchor and left enough chain and line out to reach a public picnic table. When at dock a lot of ducks ,barn swallows landing near us on lines, big carp around docks and other fish. Something really enjoyable about watching sun go down from stern and sleeping on boat. Already stayed 8 nights on boat if I wasn't working would be there double that .Makes you look forward to different marinas and anchorages . |

Larry, you've just described one of the great pleasures of being on a boat.

The longer you say on board the better your skills get, the boat stuff just gets more organised. Everything you've been planing and dreaming about comes to life and you just feel good _________________ The trouble is we think we have TIME Buddha |

And therein lies the situation: "If I wasn't working..."
All those things you enjoyed while on the boat make you think about life beyond working. Which leads to thinking about boat time instead of working.
I feel bad for people who don't get to experience that.
That desire for more boat time led to an early retirement from a career we enjoyed... best move ever.
The next symptoms to expect: your lawn will suffer from neglect and your wardrobe will change... "What do you mean 'those don't go'? Boat shoes go with everything!"
You just bought "boat stuff" (dock box and platform) for property you don't own. Somewhere down the line will be consideration of: "That would be a nice place - oh, look - it has a dock!"
Congrats on discovering what others here know, but most of the population will miss out on.

Thanks guys, kinda have a plan.Wife went back to school for medical coding after her and 14 others lost their jobs after 30 yrs,1 hrs notice to clean out desk. She graduates spring of 2016,after working in office for a while they allow you to work from home,or rv ,or boat. So there may be a bright side to her getting let go. We both want to travel ,in 2011 we purchased a 1191 Lance and have been enjoying that ever since,we go to about 5 truck camper rallies a year. Have made friends, and the second part has happened getting a C-Dory to tow behind camper. Don't ever hear about anybody reflecting on their life and saying ,wish I would have worked more. I agree about getting on with plans, especially after wifes health scare and after Sloan Kettering giving her the okay saying see you in a year. |

Nobody on their death bed ever said, "I wished I had spent more time at the office". Words to remember.

"When at dock a lot of ducks ,barn swallows landing near us on lines,"
Dotty and I met and married in Ithaca. We spent lots of time feeding the ducks in Stewart Park, right next to your dock. Our first apartment was in the basement of a house right on the canal. That was over 50 years ago and the house is long gone to urban renewal. We also spent a good deal of time at Sloane Kettering. The best at what it does. Looks like you've got your priorities straight. Here's wishing you both many many happy days and nights on that great boat. _________________ MartyP

Thanks dotnmarty, Stewart park was where they shot off the fireworks. We are at Allen Trehman marina. Nice to hear your story, wish you both a lot of happy times and good years. We visited the Ithaca farmers market the other day ,by stewart park nice place. Seems like it will take more than one season to try the restaurants and see all the sites. Talked to a local on dock They loved Stewart park ,said they had a pair of swans for many years and a zoo there and they used to always feed the ducks. |
