This spring I used Collonite Fiberglass Boat cleaner on the entire cockpit and house (still need to do the roof and hull). I followed it with Collonite Fleetwax. The cleaner took off the all dull, flat gel-coat, small stains, discoloring etc. The cleaner was "easy to use" although it was still a ton of work.

Today I washed M's Explorer; it's a 2000. The paint/clear-coat have seen better days, as we park outside. Seeing what the cleaner did to 'Au Kai, I figured why not try it on the 15 yr old clear-coat. I tried it out on the hood. I was shocked. It removed all contaminants, stains, black rub marks, even small rust spots. I followed it up with Fleetwax again. Can't say enough about the products. Hood looks almost brand new!

Now to do the rest....of the boat AND Explorer..... Mad

Been using the Collonite line for about 18 years--very popular down here in Florida. It seems to be one of the better marine waxes. But as you say, not, wipe on, wipe off.

Good idea on the car!

No no no no no. Never use their marine products (870, 885, 920, 925) on cars. It not only chemically bonds with the clear coat and enamel but it reacts with it and leeches through to the metal causing the paint to blister and...naw, just kidding. Good to know. I might even try it on the old truck to see if it brings that paint back to life.

I really like the Collonite products. It doesn't seem right that the results-to-work ratio should be so favorable. I bought two Ryobi 5" orbital buffers from Home D and use one to smear the wax around and the other to buff it shiny. I have had the larger two handed buffers, both cheap and not so cheap, and found them to be more effort than doing it with towels. But the little $29 one handed buffers work great and are real easy on my bum shoulder.

LOL. Nice try....

I used a Griot's Garage orbital machine on #4 setting w/ an orange pad followed by yellow micro-fiber towels for removal/buffing. Worked great. Hood is smooth as a new born's ass now and my bad left shoulder survived the workout.

DRAT that's not working, page 8 with reflection of ruler...
I liked Collinite products but now favor Poli-Glow clear coat since they invented a stripper that works well.
Whatever floats YOUR boat! This one had heavy UV oxidation damage from being stored outside from its birth til now (shed in winter).
Wet sanded with 3M 600, 1000. Skipped 800, 1200, 1500, 2000, 3m Ultra Finness (3000) which would have given even more reflection.
Cheers!
John

Here you go:

The issue in the past, was that you had to keep putting more Poly-Glo, to keep it from turning yellow. Eventually it built up to a point where it became unsightly...

What is the situation with the product you are using?
