Alouette Lake was logging in the 1920note the spring board cuts in the stump. This was before we moved to our dream home base in Qualicum Beach on the Strait of Georgia

Nice picture!

I have been to Alouette lake many times in my 16' runabout.
Never had my C Dory there yet though. Maybe one day I will.
Not sure how my Safari Van will do on that ramp
The ocean is just so close and inviting!

The Alouette Lake/Reservoir boat ramp is a good grade and easy to launch and pull out from in the months from May to the end of September. Being a BC Hydro controlled reservoir, those months of the year not identified as the boating season may have lake draw downs that make launching difficult. Further BC Parks pull the dock out too. The key dates under BC Hydro water license for recreation levels to be maintained are May 15 to Sept. 15.
However, the launching site can become a zoo of confusion on the weekends or holidays. When we lived in Maple Ridge we sometimes rode our motorcycles up to the launch site on a summer weekend and sit there a while to be entertained by the idiot factor being demonstrated.
Please tell us about the book your writing.

Thanks for the advice on the lake water levels. I didn't know that.

I understand the "drama on the ramp" part though. The wind seems to blow up the lake quite a bit and tends to make loading and unloading very entertaining (unless of course you are the one everyone is watching)!
I learned to start my motor at home before I left for the lake. This way I would have a quick start backing away from the trailer. As I remember there are three unloading lanes there. Sometimes I was in the middle and when loading, had to pin the boat on the trailer the first time or I would drift into the guy beside me. Oh the joys of the ramp! I eventually built some home-made goal posts on the back of the trailer.

How did you know I was thinking of writing? It is true. I have thought about it as I enter into my retirement years. I am usually so busy thinking about the business of living that its not until I get out on my C Dory that I begin to think about life itself-"-where am I going and what will my personal legacy be". I have written journals for a while but I'd like to put my thoughts together for my family. Not something for Staples to sell but something that could be a staple for my own children (I have six) as they raise their families and deal with life's compliments and challenges as Val and I have.
