In the August 11 edition of the Everett Herald there's an article about the new Marysville Ebey Waterfront Park. The park, on the city's south end of State Avenue and First Street, will be Marysville's only publicly owned access to Ebey Slough. The boat ramp will provide access to the Snohomish River delta and Port Gardner Bay for pleasure boaters, anglers and hunters.

Thumbs Up Key elements of the park include a four-lane public boat launch, a short stay moorage float, bathrooms and Ebey Fish Plaza, a nautical themed children's play area.

My notes: The article did not mention the cost of launching and/or parking. The map indicates that in additon to the main area for car/trailer parking, there's an 'overflow grass car/trailer parking' similar as to what we have up here in Bellingham

I drove by this new launch two days ago. It looks good. It is not far from the old launch near the mill. It is upriver about 1/4 of a mile. It is very near the Village Cafe. I have used the old site many times with the kayak, and it worked ok. Not much parking space but the price was right.(free) The new launch has docks and nice ramps. It will suit trailer boaters much better. My guess is that there will be a charge. Robbi

This launch will depend on tides if you want to get out of the river area. Many sand bars from the Everett Jetty, to Mission Beach, and West (ish) to the bar edge at the marker pilings. Some dead heads and sunken logs here and there too.

Pre 80's, logs were stored in the flats between the main channels of all of the sloughs. At that time, navigating the river system was easy as the channels were the only water open! Now at a high tide, one may be tempted to short cut through the old log storage areas - not a good idea. Still broken cables, metal bands, etc. in those areas. The "Dolphins" or pilings mark the channels fairly well.

The old WWII barges are nearly gone. My Uncle, who would have been in his 90's now, told me they built them to tow supplies. They fish tailed badly and were sunk in a line at the entrance to the Snohomish River. Sure were fun to run around on as a kid.
